Been wanting to invest outside my 401k and bank sponsored IRA for awhile. I am having trouble deciding which online broker to choose. What do I need to watch out for in regards to fees and which company would be the most beginner friendly? Any input would be helpful and FBHO.

Scottrade is great. Good interface and research tools.
Very simple to execute trades and track your account. Offices everywhere in my AO and I've found the customer service to be excellent. They are moving into providing more traditional "bank" type services like credit cards and debit cards linked to your account but right now you can open a checking account linked to your account. If you decide to go with them, IM me. I have a referral code for you that makes your first three trades free. |

I have been very happy with scottrade myself.
To fund it, you simply link it to a bank account. The minimum funding to open an account is $500. |

Take a look at ditto trade,
I use Etrade , it's good for the pennies Scott's trace is also good has a lot of useful tools. |

I've been using SogoTrade for over 5 years and am satisfied with it. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those mentioned here.

I use Scottrade and recommend it to family and friends.
Not to mention, that the staff at the local office are friendly and easy to talk to. Aloha, Mark PS.........How to start an account? I believe you could do it all on line. But for me........I signed up on line. Then, I took my personal check down to the local office (I wanted to see it for myself). A couple of days later I was trading stocks. Adding funds can be done on line or by visiting the Scottrade Office. By the next trading day, my money is available to trade with (margin account). Getting money out is as simple as writing myself a check or using a debit card. |

I like Scottrade as well. Inexpensive commissions, good service, and local branches in case you need to call/visit.
You can put money in via wire transfer, take a check to your local bank, or link a checking/savings account to your Scottrade account. I have mine setup to deposit a fixed amount each month from my checking account, into my Scottrade account. To get the money out, you can call and request a check, and have it within a day or two. If you're really investing and not just playing, you're better off keeping withdrawals to a minimum anyways. |
