Last year I could easily buy a Colt LE6920 for $900.  After Newtown the prices first jumped to $1500 and then $2300 in the local stores.  I have a friend who works at a major distributor.  About a month ago he said that there were no problems getting a LE6920.  They had them in stock for $1500 dealer price.

A couple of days ago I was in a small local gun store.  They had new Colts for $990.  This IS NOT a place know for cheap prices.

So I call my friend at the distributors.  He said that the bubble had burst.  The prices were way down from just a short while ago and that they expected them to drop more.  He also thought that although ammunition ( almost all ammunition) was hard to get now that the bubble would have burst well before the end of the year.

P.S.  I bought my 6920 at a local gun shop.

I wonder if the price drop is due to this:

Starting in 2013 - Colt rifles will come with the Magpul MBUS rear sight, one 30rd Magpul magazine and a manual. They will no longer come with a cleaning kit, carry handle or sling

My Colt that I bought in December (which has the "LEO/Military ONLY" rollmark) came with two GI 20rnd mags, carry handle, cleaning kit, and a sling.

A guy I work with paniced and purchased a Colt 6920 for $2,200 in the middle of Obama's last gun grab circus. I went to the LGS to pick up a few Glock Mags (just incase another gun grab panic happens) and they had a few Colts displayed. Not sure how much or exactly what models. But I assume since you can actually walk in and buy one during the day that the panic prices stopped.

Im not ashamed to admit that I paid 1550 for mine about a month ago or so. I figured that I got it NIB, no tax, and it came with 100 rounds of ammo. Colts bring a premium around here and Wally World had none to be found. At the end of the day I figure I took about a 200 dollar hit but then agIn I have one of the most badassed AR's available and the fact that it says "Colt" and "M4Carbine" are simply bonuses. In my opinion these are worth grabbing at ap to and including what I paid. Any cheaper is simply a deal.

Ha, my buddy found one today at walmart for $1097, he was tired of waiting on the GT guys.

$1495 at my local WalMart right now.  I bought one for $1095 last year and recently sold it for $1500.  I wouldn't mind getting another when prices come down a little more.

Walmart is still selling basic LE 6920s for $1,100, and your local gunstore is selling them new for under $1k?

A bit hard t believe.  Dealer name / location?

I would pick a LE6020 over a LE6920 SOCOM even if they were the came price. The rail is an option for anyone. I would not want the extra weight of the SOCOM BBL profile.

I gave up on trying to find a black 6920 MOE at Walmart so I kept watching Sportsman Outdoor Superstore and finally they came in stock for about an hour.

I was able to choose an FFL at checkout. Paid extra for express shipping and it went out that day. $1175 shipped.

Local WM this week got 5 6920's in.
Didn't ask clerk if they were all the same.
One in the case was std 6920. Still $1097
Might go tomorrow and pick one up if any left.
Still no ammo though.

My Walmart is fully stocked on ar's now. Last time I went in they had a

Sig .308 ar
Dpms lr-308 sport
Colt 6920
Colt ar with one piece upper and rail. Can't remember the model
Sig ar-15
Beretta cx4 carbine in 9mm.

It was all reasonably priced. The .308 sig was about $2,000. To much for me, but I think that's the going rate. I was shocked to sell all that in stock. But what good are they with no ammo in stock?

I just purchased a new Colt le6920 in the 2013 configuration, [30 round Pmag,MBUS with no sling or cleaning kit] for $1250 +75 tax for a total of $1325 , this was 4-15-13 , 2 days before the senate voted on gun bill.  this Colt is built right to mil spec with properly staked gas key and staked castle nut, F marked front sight , mp test bolt. A perfect m4 carbine, well worth what i paid for it. I'm happy this particular Colt is now part of our family. my guess the OP is speaking of ,the $900 Colt is the odd one with no dust cover or forward assist,  that one dont count.

If you want a genuine Colt 6920 grab it while you can. I know a person who's name I will not reveal bought 10 just months prior to the December incident. Sold nine at $2900.00, tried keeping one for himself but was offered $5000.00 so he sold it.

Also, even if you did get one at that price.  After shipping and FFL fees, you're close to Walmart's $1,099 OTD.

They have been getting shipments in all along.  I picked up a 6940 not too long ago from them.  Just place an order and wait - if you find one elsewhere and pick it up; when your order comes you have 5 days to claim it, or they'll put it up for sale at the counter.  No harm no foul.
