Trying not to laugh here, but your average inner city black teenager wants his culture lifted or 'enlightened' about as much as an Eskimo needs a football bat to eat his wax bean ice cream.

Awesome.....made me laugh....and that aint easy to do.

There are probably very few blacks in the worst crime-infested ineducable ghettos of India, Thailand, Kosovo, Mexico, Russia or Phillipines. Those ghettos are probably filled with races that are more proportionate to the whole country's population - showing that the MOST horribly crime-ridden, violent, irresponsible, uncivilized and stagnant ghettos are CULTURAL carve-outs of their respective countries more than racial carve-outs like we have in the US.
So what makes the ghettos of the US so RACIALLY segregated from the rest of the majority population? Why are white Appalachian ghettos not so violent, crime-ridden and incredibly resistant to improvement as the black urban ghettos are? Why is there virtually no improvement in the ghettos of black-urban cesspools no matter HOW many trillions of dollars are focused purely on black-specific "inner-city problems"?

I saw the Author's point over 20 years ago when I taught at a 'normal' middle school, just south of Dallas.

It's been 10 years since I taught high school in a rural district, but, the problem has only gotten worse, not better.

The most endangered black student is the one who tries to step out of the mold, out of lockstep, and attempts to succeed.  "He tryin act all white!"

I saw that phrase, catcall, jeer crush a lot of souls.

I've never taught in an inner city school.  From what the author wrote, it matches what I have been told about Dallas ISD as well.

DISD is awful, a friend taught at one of the black high schools for a year after he graduated. I went and sat in one of his classes, where i was actually propositioned by multiple black females throughout day. It was insane, confirmed all the stories my ex told of Dunbar high, which is super ghetto but is home to (or used to be) the FWISD magnet program.

If you want I can maybe find the paper again online - but basically the story went like this:

Black parents of an upscale private school were pissed that the black students got worst grades than the whites and asians. They hired a professor from Berkley (super liberal school) to get to the root of the problem. They expected to find racist rules and programs that kept the black students from succeeding.

What he found was it boiled down to culture. Black students were seen as acting white if they did well at school. Black parents were far less likely to be involved in their child's education, saying it was the teachers job. Thus there was no reinforcement from home.

This also explained why blacks who freshly immigrated from Africa also scored better than their native black peers.

I attend a HBCU, historically black college/university, and I can say I have witnessed a lot of what the article is about. You always know when the financial aid checks are cut because everyone has some new rims or new speakers for their car that cost more than the car itself. After 2 weeks, the tome it takes for FA to be dispurced, the parking garages are empty because no one shows up for class unless its test day and they immediately ask about curving before the test even commences. There are some very educated and very motivated students I encounter who are often chastised for "acting white". The ones that do show up periodically are late, headphones on with the noise so high we can hear it and the ringtones are often the most vulgar lyrics that would make a porn script writer blush. The graduation rate is 12% at my school. Why do I go there? Because comparatively speaking I am in the top of the class when if I went to a white school, that's dominated by Indians and Asian Americans, I would look like a dunce

The reasoning in this post staggers the imagination.

The school I attend has a program where an A- average is well above the pack. The other schools with the same program anything less than 3.7-3.8 is not competitive. I had a higher chance to be accepted into a graduate program because of the gpa difference amongst my peers. Perhaps I should have explained that better in my first post.

People do the same thing in Florida, want to go to Pharmacy School at UF or Barry bring 4.0 and incredible scores on the PCAT.  The only other pharmacy school is at Florida A&M an all black college, a huge percentage of the pharmacy program is white.

I attended an 80% black school and it was almost exactly as described, although, fewer seemed to act the way the author wrote it, but they were there. In my experience they weren't quite as violent against whites, or quite as stupid. Only got into one fight with a black guy, and we ended up being alright with each other later on.  These were the more suburbanized type though who mainly grew up during the transitional period of the great white flight. ( when our neighborhood went from predominately white to black) so most of the students were accustomed to whites out numbering them or 50/50 in their elementary years.

I can only imagine what it is like now....

Based on a study of SAT scores in 2005:

* Whites from families with incomes below $10,000 had a mean SAT score that was 129 points higher than the national mean for ALL blacks.

* Whites from families with incomes below $10,000 had a mean SAT test score that was 61 points higher than the mean SAT score for Blacks whose families had incomes of between $80,000 and $100,000.

* Whites from families with incomes below $10,000 had a mean SAT test score that was 10 points higher than the mean SAT score for Blacks whose families had incomes over $100,000.

* That, on average, the poorest whites still outperform the richest Blacks demonstrates that economics has virtually nothing to do with the Black/White differences in standardized test scores or academic ability.

Apparently, you've never spent time around blacks in their native environment. I bet Philly is just as bad. I grew up in Dayton, Ohio in the 1960's/70's. I got bussed for school to the "all black areas" in the great gov desegregation experiment. It sucked, I got beat up nearly daily by a black mobs and it failed in the experiment. Blacks usually don't want to be around whites and vice-versa.

Working LE in Phoenix, I was asked by a black arrestee why my "gat was clear?" What? He motioned to my taser, not my Glock 21. It was clear because I voluntarily went to Taser International and "rode the lightning" and got a clear taser. He didn't understand anything I said. Then I said, "I don't know. Why are you ugly?" I was accused of being "racis" and he wanted to file a formal complaint to my supervisor. I had to go talk to him and get it straightened out to his satisfaction. He finally admitted that he always pulls the "racis" card whenever he doesn't understand something or disagrees with it. My partner that night was a black man and I asked this arrestee what my partner thought about him calling me racist against blacks.

Dayton, Ohio city proper was populated by more than 70% blacks back then. So much, that all the top city gov positions, including council members, were blacks. The mayor, police chief, fire chief, Assemblymen, city manager. I don't care and didn't back then, but the politics of the area were very liberal and backwards thinking and were very much against whites. Black judges were harsher in penalties against whites than if it were a black on trial.

Before you accuse me of being racist, my best friend in grade school was a black kid and one of my greatest and longest friendships in the army was a guy named Ray and he was the tallest and darkest black man I've ever seen. I protected him from a mob of KKK protesters outside of Ft. Campbell, KY in 1984 with my personally owned gun. He was from Brooklyn and I cared for him like a brother.

This essay is spot on in my experience. Race is thicker than water with people.

This.

A horrible, horrible injustice is being done to these people.

I'm very close to some people who broke out of the mold. Some of the most conservative people I know. This isn't something that is in the blood, or comes from the skin. This is the culture thrust upon them and people like Jesse Jackson et al are in large part to blame for it.
