My youngest uncle's wife is dying of cancer.

My father died of cancer 40 years ago.  I have always connected these songs with that.

The Sound of Silence (Original Version from 1964)

Don McLean - Vincent ( Starry, Starry Night) With Lyrics

He barely passed his 40th birthday.  I am 54.  I feel so bad for him and my mother. She has been a widow longer than not.
If you care to, please pray for my uncle Bruce and his wife Loretta.

Don't it just.

But, some have hope.

Psalm 116New King James Version (NKJV)

Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death

116 I love the Lord, because He has heard
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The pains of death surrounded me,
And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;
I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your rest, O my soul,
For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before the Lord
In the land of the living.
10 I believed, therefore I spoke,
“I am greatly afflicted.”
11 I said in my haste,
“All men are liars.”
12 What shall I render to the Lord
For all His benefits toward me?
13 I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His saints.
16 O Lord, truly I am Your servant;
I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant;
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people,
19 In the courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

I am so messed up right now...

[#6]
Complete change of subject.

After church, my son and his wife, my wife's sister and her family came over.  Dana (Sis-in-law) has 8 kids and a husband.

I cooked 7 pounds of pork roast, 4 pounds of chicken thighs. 5 cups of rice (dry), 3 pounds of potatoes, 3 pounds of carrots. I spent three hours at least working on the meal.
Not a thanks to be heard.  I have one chicken thigh in the fridge for my daughter to have for lunch tomorrow.

I am feeling put upon.  But...

The Sons Of Martha
The Sons of Mary seldom bother, for they have inherited that good part;
But the Sons of Martha favour their Mother of the careful soul and the troubled heart.
And because she lost her temper once, and because she was rude to the Lord her Guest,
Her Sons must wait upon Mary's Sons, world without end, reprieve, or rest.

It is their care in all the ages to take the buffet and cushion the shock.
It is their care that the gear engages; it is their care that the switches lock.
It is their care that the wheels run truly; it is their care to embark and entrain,
Tally, transport, and deliver duly the Sons of Mary by land and main.

They say to mountains ``Be ye removèd.'' They say to the lesser floods ``Be dry.''
Under their rods are the rocks reprovèd---they are not afraid of that which is high.
Then do the hill-tops shake to the summit---then is the bed of the deep laid bare,
That the Sons of Mary may overcome it, pleasantly sleeping and unaware.

They finger Death at their gloves' end where they piece and repiece the living wires.
He rears against the gates they tend: they feed him hungry behind their fires.
Early at dawn, ere men see clear, they stumble into his terrible stall,
And hale him forth like a haltered steer, and goad and turn him till evenfall.

To these from birth is Belief forbidden; from these till death is Relief afar.
They are concerned with matters hidden---under the earthline their altars are---
The secret fountains to follow up, waters withdrawn to restore to the mouth,
And gather the floods as in a cup, and pour them again at a city's drouth.

They do not preach that their God will rouse them a little before the nuts work loose.
They do not preach that His Pity allows them to drop their job when they damn-well choose.
As in the thronged and the lighted ways, so in the dark and the desert they stand,
Wary and watchful all their days that their brethren's ways may be long in the land.

Raise ye the stone or cleave the wood to make a path more fair or flat;
Lo, it is black already with the blood some Son of Martha spilled for that!
Not as a ladder from earth to Heaven, not as a witness to any creed,
But simple service simply given to his own kind in their common need.

And the Sons of Mary smile and are blessèd---they know the Angels are on their side.
They know in them is the Grace confessèd, and for them are the Mercies multiplied.
They sit at the feet---they hear the Word---they see how truly the Promise runs.
They have cast their burden upon the Lord, and---the Lord He lays it on Martha's Sons!

Work orders are completely done.

Nothing left to be filed or cleared up.

All 135 apartments are filled.

No more leases to renew.

And the internet is down meaning we can't do work with Yardi Genesis.

I think as soon as the mail arrives, I'm going shooting after I put it out.

Depends. Does it involve traveling to CA?

Nope.

Does it involve a lot of electrical? I hate electrical, I'd rather deal with plumbing

I can handle assembly and some electrical, but wiring it all and playing scavenger hunt with the connections...

The pit we ended up in was littered with brass. The tenant I rolled with was a kid in a toy store, .45 Colt and .38 Special  was everywhere.

An old man pulled in as we were picking it up, asked if we were keeping it, didn't like the answer we gave him, and left angry. Why he was angry, who knows. Finders-keepers and all that.

Well I'm an electrician, so yes there may be some electrical involved.

I'll let you handle plumbing, outside of landscape lines I'm no good.

Yes the California bullshit has not stopped, and there is either no light at the end of the tunnel or management is simply too tired to care about it.
It is kind of funny to see all these kids dropping like flies because they are tired from working a couple months of OT. Boohoo, try a deployment or a month on the fire line. Young guys all want to make money, right up until it's time to EARN it.

That being said, California can eat a bag of dicks. It honestly feels like a different country at this point. That's probably not fair or true to the interior parts or the Jefferson guys, but Socal is gross.

Apparently I may be hitting Oakland next month.

I always clean up my shooting areas when other people trash them, and now that I reload I realize how much of an opportunity that can be now, instead of just a chore.

Plumbing is okay, until you're stuck underneath someone's sink and suddenly getting puppy swarmed or investigated and then nuzzled to death by the cats.

Whenever the internet or power goes out for a few hours from the weather, I have to hold back the laughter at the complaints. They just don't really know how fortunate they are to have such 1st world problems over things that they've taken for granted.

One such outage on a not even hot day, one tenant raged at me over something that was out of my hands because she didn't have AC. I asked her if she'd ever dreamed of wanting to take a nap inside of walk-in fridge at some liquor store, she looked at me funny and said no. So I told her the story of my daily life during OIF 1 and afterwards she apologized and hugged me and left with a better understanding of how the world actually is apart from what everyone thinks it it's supposed to be, and learned some humility and patience, and to appreciate things even more.

Mentoring our youth and the ignorant is a lost art. We need to start teaching it again to preserve the right cultivation of the human race. Nothing is easy or free, you need to earn it the right way.

As for Oakland...egads!

We were on hold for a while to get some medical stuff cleared up while we are both on my insurance. Wife had surgery a couple months ago and I found out last week that I actually don't need surgery so.....we'really looking again.  Thinking about iowa, it's better than IL but still only 4 hours from my parents. I'm an only child and they're getting older

Yeah,  it was a carpel tunnel surgery, she was in bandages for a month and now she's great. No more numbness in her hand so she's happy. Two days after her surgery we went to Texas for a week so she could see her mom.  Thanks for asking

Other than working out of town a lot, how have you been? Hawaiian good?

I was wondering why she wasn't posting here. I'm glad the two of you are better.

I've told my mother that if my sister doesn't do it when it's time to take care of her, then I am flying her here, buying property, building a house, and she will have to deal with my lifestyle and the fact that this will be a house that is gun friendly and right leaning. She didn't say a word, kinda shocked We had that discussion a few years ago, kk just reminded me of it.

The mail carrier knows shit about every customer that the customer would likely prefer that NOBODY knew.  And now you know it.  You know when people are getting divorced, when they're getting audited by the IRS, when their family members die, when they have any kind of legal trouble (probably, unless the letter carrier hand delivers the certified mail), you know their political affiliations, their religions, their belief systems to an extent, their alternative lifestyles if they have them, and honestly, none of that is ANYBODY's business but theirs, because that right to privacy is a big part of our freedom.

People think mail carriers are paid too much.

But they're not.  They're paid to carry a boat load of stress and keep shit secret that is nobody's business.  You kinda can't put a price on that.

I was wondering if you'd had to take a class.  That's kind of cool actually. I know you hate it, but good for you.  You are standing for their freedom now, even as a civilian.

Yes, consequently I know who my tenants are.

I know who's a Republican. I know who's a Libertarian. I know who's a Democrat. I also know which folks that don't vote

I know who's trying to get off of welfare. I know who is legally double dipping and who is illegally double dipping

I know who's selflessly giving away their money to every cause known to man and who is religious.

I know who are the hunters and who's a gun owner, even the one's trying to be sneaky about it.

I know who is gay and who is lesbian. I know who the smut peddlers are as well.

I also know who is trying to be sneaky by having people living in the apartments when they're not on the lease and should be. That mail get's instantly returned. I don't return the mail for the folks that asked if their so an so can use this address as their own.

The district manager's wife and my wife have a key to the mail box unit master door. They don't even look or get nosy if someone need's a package. They have keys because sometimes they help out by answering phones and CS and give tours, while the district and me are out doing bigger things. Like today, Mrs. GSL will be watching the office while GSL himself mails a package to corporate and then hits Home Depot to purchase supplies for an apartment rebuild. District Manager will be at the Chino Valley property with the property manager there and meet with the PD to get rid of some squatters while my assistant manager will be with maintenance getting that apartment that is being rebuilt ready to be tore down and trash taken out.

Eh, it's a living. I notify people when they have a package that obviously cannot fit in their boxes. I don't tell everyone or just one snowflake that their mail is is here and waiting for them in their box. Unless they're sick or injured, that's different. I bring it to them because that's the human thing to do.

You was itching to leave CA that fast and decided to take a chance like that with 4 feet?

I've done some jumps. Even got Thai and German wings as well as Airborne. But even I know not to do that with 4 feet and my age.

Hope you heal fast.

In fact, if you feel like helping me sort through this monster pile of brass, let me know

One of the shooters is a co owner of Big Sandy. He owns his own range and has endless amounts of brass. He gave it all to me what he shot. And he shot a lot.

I made a rookie mistake, I tried to stick the landing instead of executing a PLF. In fact the foot I broke is the one I purposely landed on the hardest because the other leg is all fucked up..

We need to figure a range day when I get myself sorted out.

You ain't kidding about the brass.

So far I've found and piled:

.303
.308
7.62 NATO
7.62x54
.38 Special
9x19
10mm
.40 S&W
.223
5.56
9x19
.45 ACP

The .303, 7.62x54 (PPU), and .40 has already been claimed. The rest is mine.

Yeah, we need to schedule a range day.

ETA: Now the .38 Special has been claimed
