Thanks. Elvis was going to be put down by the breeder but was saved by my younger Brother. When I would visit, Elvis would jump up on me and would fall asleep in my arms. Which he wouldn't do to anyone else. One day my Brother showed up and said here's your dog and dropped him off. My Brother called him "Shithead". But he is such a cool dog I changed it to 'Elvis'. Just saw this. Here are pics of Elvis. Pure bred Long Coat. He was born Deaf & Blind. But he his my best friend. -SNIP- This was my last Akita, Niki. She was good girl my late Wife and I saved from the needle. She did not like other dogs. But when I got Elvis, for some reason she used to give him the biggest kisses. And let him jump on her and run around under her. And she never made a peep. Sadly I had to put her down in 2010 at the age of 16. Ed Good for for giving Elvis a good life. Our last doxie that lived to be 20 was deaf and blind from about 14 on. It was difficult with her, but she was never neglected and she spent her final years very comfortably. Ed One of the dachshund rescue groups says that blindness and deafness in piebalds is pretty common. Just like skin issues in Isabella colored ones. All American Dachshund rescue from time to time will have piebalds up for adoption for some of the same reasons you have yours. |

I don't know if I could handle another one. But Elvis is pretty smart. I showed (led him to) him the front door a couple of times and now I only have to go out to the yard to save him if the wind is blowing really hard. It's fun to watch him walking down the sidewalk and around the corner right up to the door. Sometimes he barks if I don't open it fast enough. He knows where everything in the house is and not to go in my Mom's room. His spankings consist of a pat on the butt. Which really hurt his feelings. But I pick him up and give him a lot of loving so he knows it wasn't that bad. BTW my Ex keeps looking for a dog like Elvis. She just has hasn't found one as cool looking. Ed ps; love looking at everyones dog. all dressed up or napping. |

My Aunt was a doxy freak, she had a number of different ones over the years, short hairs, long hairs, standard and miniatures. They tend to be one person dogs and don't really get along with people other than the one they have bonded with, I can't stand them!

My Oscar is neutered, and is really good at staying busy and not overeating. He gets a little chubby in the winter, but it's hard to walk your dog on a sheet of ice. During the warmer months he stays nice and lean with little effort.
