Found some old maglites, one is a 2xC one is a 3XD.  Are these worth an LED conversion, or doomed to be obsolete forever?

You could just use them like they were intended.............................

Put it aside until the zombie apocalypse and then turn it into a suppressor.    JK.  Good question. I'm curious as well.

They suck as they are intended.  Conversion gives you bunches more light, and bunches more battery life...and still capable of fracturing a skull or 15.

Funny thing about Maglites - I used to think they were awesomely bright and cool ... until I came across my first LED light awhile back. HAWNK!

Now those pissy little weak-tit maglites look like candles.

The best cure for them is to throw them away, unless you have the facilities to melt them down and make AR lowers out of them.

2 c-cell maglites can be converted to take CR123 cells.

Plastic tubing in the body and a 6-cell maglite bulb.

It will hold 3 CR123's.

The new Maglite Pros are extremely bright, made in USA and reasonably priced.  Ditch the old on - give to Goodwill for tax deduction or just to a friend.

I threw a LED in my 6-cell Maglite....It was worth the few bucks.

I have an old 3XD model and 2XAA.  I converted both of them to LED years ago.  Well worth it.
Battery life is extended quite a bit.

I have done LED conversions to 2 of mine.

One (3D) is clipped to the floor of my truck near the shifter.
Since I can't ccw, I figure it could come in handy disabling a badguy.
*by blinding them of course since anything considered a weapon would land me a felony charge by having it in my truck.

I've found that the aftermarket, cheap-ass, not so bright LED conversions are fantastic.  They're still brighter than the original bulb, and have runtimes that equate in my use out to, "battery's gonna leak before it dies".

I have upgraded 3 3D and 1 3C Maglites with LED conversions. Very well worth it, in my opinion.

Just throwing them away is the height of idiocy.

Put a Rayovac LED conversion bulb in the 2C light.

The bulb is only $3.88 at Wal-Mart, so you're not throwing much extra money into the light.

It produces around 30 lumens, so it's easily as bright as the original bulb. Only draws around 0.07 amps, so the run-time is insane - makes an excellent hurricane light.

Nite-Ize also makes a LED conversion bulb that works with 3+ cell flashlights, but it costs around 8 bucks.

ok, If they are so old the serial number on the body does NOT start with a C or D then the body ID will be slighlty larger than the old ones and you can use AA and AAA adapters inside to boost the voltage. The non alphabetical bodies are worth a slight amount more to serious flashlight geeks. Check out candlepower forums.

Install a 3 Watt LED bulb:

Call me crazy, but I still just use mine as they were intended, as a flash light.

When I decide I need a flash light that burns through batteries quicker than shit and gets hot enough to cook eggs on, I'll get one of the new "improved" ones.

Same with my 3XD. Bought an LED bulb at Walmart for just shy of $20. Works great and the batteries last much longer.

So how much better are these LED conversion kits that cost more than a new 2/3 D cell LED Maglite?

I have a 2 D cell LED Maglite  that I am very happy with.  It is very bright, adjust to a very pin-point beam, and batteries last for a long time.

I have four, two of the three D cell, one four D and the last one six D cell. All have the Malkoff conversion and work great !

I dunno, but I would be inclined to use them as a flashlight, or just take the batteries out and keep as spares, or put led bulbs in them.

II know that isn't the most tactical answer, and CAG doesn't use them except in their home garages, but the answer isn't always a 1.75 trillion lumen wonder light with a 3 minute run time on CR 123's.

Sometimes you just have to give up the capability of guiding in the space shuttle for the sake of economics.

It is legal to make your own suppressor.  You still need to buy a tax stamp and put a serial number on the item and your GTG.

I have a good half dozen of them either factory LED or conversions in vehicals, the garage and tucked away around the house. They are very handy in a power outage. They have a long shelf life,
