Racism, homophobia and general intolerance are not unique to any particular region of the US - that is the conclusion that California college students have reached after mapping out hate speech based on Twitter posts.

Undergraduate students at Humboldt State University analyzed 150,000 geocoded tweets sent out between June 2012 and April 2013 containing 10 pre-selected hate words in three categories: Racism, homophobia and disability.

After processing the data aggregated by the DOLLY Project, the team comprised of three students in Dr Monica Stephens’ advance cartography class produced an interactive map as part of The Geography of Hate project.

I all but guarantee you "cracka", "whitey", "gringo" and "breeder" weren't counted.

What were the racist terms? Did it include whitey and the such?

And of course, the most red indicates the most racists. The most blue indicates the "good guys". No obvious inference regarding red/blue political maps and how states vote? No obvious bias based on color choice? What a crock.

Without context, this is all bullshit.

If you go to the site the words searched for are in the upper left corner under the bias name; homophobia, racism....

Old black guy to me a thing or two about racism back when. Said that back then, when they were racist they did it overtly, in your face style. you knew where you stood.  These days they do it behind your back, so you have no idea whats going on.

I find the total lack of racism in CA throwing a huge BS flag....  I lived there for a decade and it's one of the most racially tense and divided places I've ever seen in the US. But of course that doesn't fit the agenda, does it.

Also ignored but assumed in the study....guess who used the dreaded N word the most in their texting and typing?   It ain't whitey, homey.

BS study.

Looking at NC and GA, the red parts pretty much outline the areas with the highest minority population (not necessarily per capita, but in total numbers).

Or maybe because red has always been associated with heat..anger...hate and blue associated with cold..calm...compassion.

Language and etymology.......you can't say what you mean unless you know the meaning of what you're saying.

I do not tweet but am a homophobe.  Add one to the area east of Pikes peak.

Wait a minute.  Do I have the ability to associate with those I wish...and not with those who I prefer to not be around?  If so,,,,then I am normal.

So let me get this straight. They searched for tweets that said something along the lines of 'nigger' and 'obama', and compared the state it came from to the total tweets from that state, and they think that's a good sampling of racism?

Worst. Study. OfTheYear.

Glad we've got a map of whitey's hate. This is like, totally useful.
Was kafir searched for? No? Okay.

Anything along any other racial lines? No? Oh, alright.
