Josey Wales would have kicked the Rooster's ass.
Plus Eastwood's characters weren't as stale as Wayne's. |
Clint was much better than John. John sounded like a drunk in every episode.
Quoted:
Duke every time This... But there should have been another category for Tie. Two great American icons. . |
Clint would have shot Duke before he finished talking.
John Wayne does look like he could handle himself in a fist fight better though. |
This is the toughest poll I have ever participated in here.. I give a slight tip of the hat to the Duke.. like 49.9 to 50.1
Both good.
Clint is just so damn cool though, it's almost no contest. |
Quoted:
I refuse to pick one over the other. This is ARFCOM. Not some hippie sports league where everyone gets a first place trophy. |
This is like asking which of your kids you love more. The only answer is "both".
As much as I admire John Wayne, his characters always have seemed more sappy to me than Clints. Could just be more to do with their era of popularity though. Nothing against either though

"I'm thirty years older than you are. I had my back broke once, and my
hip twice. And on my worst day I could beat the hell out of you." |
Not even Close--
Clint Eastwood is the Badast Ass MuthaFucka that will ever live in our Lifetime!!! |
even though they were both great actors, I'm still a bigger fan of Duke
Before Chuck Norris goes to bed he asks his dad to check the closet for Clint Eastwood.
Its impossible to make that decision.
Its like divding by zero |
I can't pick one over the other.
I tend to think of Clint's Western characters as sons of John Wayne's Western characters. ...and shame on you for not having any pics of the Duke from "The Quiet Man"! |
I like John Wayne, But its not even close. Eastwood for sure.
Eastwood. But I voted Duke because he deserves votes too. Both good men.
I'd go with Eastwood only because he hasn't done any parts that tarnish his image. His later acting parts may not be as glorious as the early ones, but they don't tarnish.
Further, when one plays an amoral, self centered assassin, if a governmental one, such as Jonathan Hemlock, one has a lot more lee way to take less shining knight roles. I mean, who would ever see Wayne as a prisoner at Alcatraz? __________________________________________________________________________________________ (" It's dangerous, child, to come to conclusions when you don't have any facts. Now let me lay some on you. Sure Dragon knows what he's doing, just like he knew what he was doing when he worked for the Nazis during World War II. Oh, you didn't know that, did you? Yes your "wrap him up in red, white, and blue" Mr. Dragon's a goddamn Hessian, that's what he is. And he'd sell out the other side as fast as he'd sell out our side. And he'd sell out his mother, too, if the bloodless freak had one."--Hemlock, (w,stte), "The Eiger Sanction") |

Clint.
34 years since John Wayne died, think the poll would be closer if he had lived longer and was more known to the under 40 crowd.
I have no use for Wayne. Eastwood is probably my favorite actor.
Quoted: Clint all the way. At least he can act, unlike Marion Neither of them are what anyone could call a great actor. Duke pulled off some surprising performances over his career. Eastwood has as well. They both have a fairly limited range. |
Quoted: Watch "In Harm's Way" and get back to me. Watch The Searchers and get back to us. It's like JW isn't even acting. Pure revenge driven psycho.
Quoted: Before Chuck Norris goes to bed he asks his dad to check the closet for Clint Eastwood. |
Where is the Chuck Norris option?
Just kidding, I voted Clint. |
If you voted for Clint, you voted for Euro-trash spaghetti (e.g., Sergeo Leone, Ennio Morricone, etc.).
John Wayne remained faithful to the United States of America, throughout his career. eta: many of Clint's "Westerns" were filmed in fucking SPAIN. |
