Audie Murphy is the answer. Real hero and a bad ass who happened to be an actor. Not an actor who played bad asses and heroes. roy d...but that wasn't an option so I declare this poll invalid Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable both delivered the Gospel According to Alfred Nobel to those heathen Germans. |

We had this same discussion at work a while back and I was on the Eastwood side. I asked the guys who said The Duke was better this question. How many times did whores hire John Wayne? Then I asked them how many times did whores hire Clint Eastwood? Then I told them if a whore is paying you then you must be doing something right!

Eastwood could simply stare at Wayne and he'd keel over and die on the spot.

You know who that was? It was Clint Eastwood. Clint Eastwood doesn't walk with a gay somber. Sorry I love the Duke but that walk made him look light in the loafers. That walk was the result of a broken back ... |

Clint would have shot Duke before he finished talking. John Wayne does look like he could handle himself in a fist fight better though. If we are deciding on their ability to fight: I think they are, or were both around 6' 2 but Wayne was a much heavier build...OK much of that was fat but still weight counts for a lot. |

Clint but my ABSOLUTE IDOL for Westerns was James Arness in Gunsmoke. Big man that was as good and decent as they come. He could have kicked my fat ass with both of his arms tied behind his back. Plus, I used to fap over Miss Kitty. Why fapp? I'm sure Mrs Kitty had reasonable rates, and I bet it was a hell of a ride. How do you think Festus got that limp? |

Duke for me cause Im old school and I got to meet him once...
Also never heard of Clint being in a "real fight" But I did read somewhere that Duke kicked the crap out of one of Sinatras bodyguards one time cause they were making too much noise in the room below of the hotel where he was trying to sleep! |

IIRC, the story line in the series was a wound in the Civil War. (It was Chester though.) I could be wrong though. |

Tough call for me, like most everyone else here.
Eastwood has The Good, The Bad, and Ugly. Wayne has "The Searchers". Eastwood has High Plains Drifter and The Outlaw Josey Wales. Wayne has Big Jake and True Grit I broke the tie and voted for The Duke for this reason: Throw out their characters and in a real man to man confrontation, Marion Morrison would beat the ever-lovin tar out of Clinton Eastwood Jr. 99 times out of 100. |
|
I'm 38 and still voting JW. Both are American Icons.
John Wayne named his cat Chuck Norris because he was a pussy. |
|
I had a hard time choosing one ove the other but in the end I had to pick Eastwood. Kelly's Heroes has been my favorite movie for years. Oh, btw, I'm 50 and I own a lot of both actors movies.

I heard Dean Martin confirm that story once during one of the "Dean Martin Roasts". Yes...I am old enough to remember the Dean Martin Roast. I am still a big fan of Foster Brooks. |

Often, career actors of his generation had a signature style. JW also was said to favor a business suit over casual clothes and was reported to have hated horses....obviously commie propaganda! roy d...at least that's what I read on the internet |

Clint can also direct pretty well, I don't think the ham with the girls name ever did that

Bahh Brits arent allowed in here...
FWIW Duke financed and produced/directed "The Alamo" as well as most of the films he did under the "Batjack" production label that was his company just like "Malpaso" was Eastwoods production company... Clint didint treat Sondra Locke too well..thats my biggest problem with hm supposedly forcing her to get abortions and stuff..his characters always have a kind of pathos in em..people like the Duke, Lee Marvin etc were just old school ass kickers and hell raising old time Hollywood drinkers.. if your real first name was "Marion" you'd be a tough ass too! Clint is popular with the younger set and I realize that..but now he's an over the hill senior citizen as well so who are the NEW Clint's and Duke's nowadays? I dont see any.. |
|
Does that show Deadliest Warrior still air?
If so, we should all pester the shit out of them to put these two up head to head. |
|
John Wayne played John Wayne in all of his movies.
Eastwood has a range. |

I voted for Clint but Eastwood's last movie is has to something special if it wants to compete with 'The Shootist' Agreed. The Shootist was an amazing performance. Also, Wayne in The Searchers was great. Of course, Josie Wales was a true bad-to-the bone fed-up dude. Also, don't forget that cultural differences in the different eras these great actors worked in. Most of Wayne's career was in an era where the movies were portrayed where the good guy always wins and gets the girl in the end. Eastwood's career was in a time where the movies were grittier, more true to life in their portrayal of the bad guys. You'd never see John Wayne up against the Scorpio killer. However, you'd never see Eastwood paired up with a female lead like Maureen O'Hara. (hubba hubba) I support the Arfcom creed of "Get Both!" It was awesome when Wayne smacked O'Hara on the backside. |

Eastwood for being vocal on gun rights and having a modified GMC Typhoon as his daily driver.
And TGTBTU is my favorite western of all time. |

John Wayne was a badass, but Ive got to go with Clint (Squint) Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood. If would be interesting to see the voter demographics for Eastwood vs the Duke. My guess, Over 45 years old - the Duke. Under 45 years old - Eastwood I am 35...and I say The Duke, but then again I grew up watching him with my dad. My wife is 30 and she is die hard John Wayne fan. |
|
The Duke was the original, but Clint took his craft to heights that would make John Wayne dizzy.
|
|
We still get a kick outta watchin' Clint; we all get a kick outta Clint
There ain't never been one quite like Clint, there's really only one Clint I always did like Lee Van Cleef; always did like Lee Nobody's steely like Lee Van Cleef. Whatever happened to Lee? Whatever happened to Lee Van Cleef? Don't forget about Lee ETA: But between the two options presented in the poll... If you picked Marion, you are wrong. |
