Suunto Core Military http://www.suunto.com/ImageVaultFiles/id_3124/cf_127/ss014279010_gallery_1.jpg I've been wearing one of these for the past couple of weeks and I really like it. Prior to that it was a Casio GWM850-1 and a Seiko Orange Monster. |

The best WATCH is a tough solar waveceptor Casio G-Shock. Yep. My only complaint is that you can see the date, or the day of the week, but not both. |

I have a Seiko Automatic... If I don't wear it most of the day, everyday it doesn't stay charged up enough and loses accuracy. Feels like I have to reset it far too often

You can get Seikos or Citizens in both mechanical or quartz, in a myriad of styles w/ your budget.
That said, if you want something different, Android Watch company makes some cool, low cost autos I have the older version of this...it get's more compliments than my Breitling http://www.android-usa.com/ Speed |

I love my Citizen Eco-drive. It was made 4-07 and I bought it new in 6-09. Has worked flawlessly for me every day on shift since, l never take it off. I recently cracked the crystal face and had it repaired, ~$100 and it was like brand new. I don't believe they, make my model anymore, it has a day and date display without having the extra dials in there.

I just got it a few weeks ago but so far no problems. It's my 3rd Seiko and none have had any problems other than needing a battery. According to the manual a small charge time of a few hours should keep it charged for 6 months. If you like a big chunky watch this is a good pick. |

Casio Pathfinder PAG240-1
I've hardly taken mine off in the two years I've owned it. I've swam in the ocean and gotten it full of sand several times with no problems. Very user friendly and looks great. I've owned G Shocks for years, and liked them, but after upgrading to the Pathfinder, there is no going back to a G. http://www.protrek.casio.com/watches/detail/PAG240-1 |

I wanted a non diver to go with my TSAR. I've had my TSAR since 2007 and it's been through hell and back. I really like the Sinn and panerai style hands and numbers as well as the older Nav B-uhr series watches. Well I was browsing amazon and ran across this timex. I've not had a timex in years and said for $50 bucks why not. Turns out its quite a nice watch for the money. I ordered some more NATOs and a leather NATO from crown & buckle and will update pics once they arrive. Makes a good casual / field watch. http://i.imgur.com/Qr4xa5B.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VyoVLO8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HGWRCqn.jpg http://i.imgur.com/r9RxoRm.jpg How's the indiglo work on that? Not sure I've ever seen that feature on a black faced watch before. It's pretty decent looking too. I've had a few Timex watches in my time, and they've all worked just fine long after they looked like hell and I was sick of 'em. Not a thing wrong with 'em. |

Seiko mechanical watches are almost impossible to beat in that price range. They're a very under-appreciated company in the US, but they make great watches all the way up to and above Rolex quality (at Rolex prices though).

I agree with the Seiko or Citizen Eco-drive advice.
My daily watch is a Seiko that my folks bought for me in 1986. It has never stopped working. I recently had it serviced by Seiko, and reluminized by IWW. My other watch is a citizen Eco-drive that I use for scuba diving (because it has a depth gauge). Bought it over 10 years ago, iirc. Been in oceans all over the world. Both have been excellent watches, and have always worked. |

I love and hate my Luminox.
I would never get another one, though I LOVE the tritium vials. It is a POS that I break often... |

I like the Citizen Eco-Drive watches. Never replace a battery again. There are some nice ones in your price range.
If you want a digital watch with a stopwatch, timer, alarm, etc, get a Casio, especially one that runs on a lithium battery. They run about 10 years on one battery, which is really nice. |
|
I'm assuming you're looking at a quartz watch, so I'll echo the recommendations of Seiko or Citizen
This is what I started off with: I've gone diving with it, worked on a construction site with it, gone sailing with it, etc. and it has never needed service or a battery in the 11 years I've had it. I'll warn you though, getting into watches can be just as expensive and addicting as guns ETA: If you haven't found it already, take a look around here (it's the ARFCOM of watches): http://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php They have an Affordable Watches section that's right up your alley |

Because I've been searching and can't find it unless I pay scalpers prices on E Bay. You have to read ARFCOM 24 hours a day. I got mine when a member posted that they were in stock at countycomm.com I was lucky, because I managed to reserve mine, and they were sold out minutes later. |

I'm not saying the watch is for you, just that it's a mistake to scratch it off your list because someone called it a 'House Brand.' I have a Citizen Eco-Drive. It broke 3 days after the warranty ended. I have a Seiko Sport Diver that I've owned since 1987, and it's still running strong. I have a G-Shock that I wear daily. My Maratac is my 'dress' watch. (I did upgrade to a leather band.) |

Invicta has been known to sell watches that meet that description UNDER $100. Of course I'd set two sticks in the dirt to figure out the time before I wore an Invicta, and they are the poster child brand for "where's it made, nowhere mentionable". There's nothing wrong with the Miyota 8125, but it's nothing special. No better than any of the Seiko movements in hundred dollar watches. Probably no better than the Vostok 2416B with it's 31 jewels, (gasp! OMG! But jewel count means bupkis). I'd take a straight 2416 in preference every time. |
