As I understand it, road flares are getting harder to come by in large numbers since you can make meth with them.

I ended up buying them from Mallory Co. As it turns out, a case is two hazmat fees, so I bought 60 instead of 72.
Also, they're ordering a case of the 10 minute flares, which will be another hazmat fee, but I'll get a case of what I wanted. |

I am not sure about the meth part but for some reason flares are almost impossible to come by these days. Our fire department recently had to send in an official letter head just to get a few cases. Funny though, if we see a trooper at an accident scene... He will gladly give us every last single flare in his trunk. They are allergic to flares I swear.

The striker on the flare contains a much larger amount of phosphorus than matches.
The red burning portion is probably nothing more than strontium salt and a perchlorate, saw dust, wax etc. |

We went from road flares to reflective triangles years ago, we used to have to carry flares, but too many roadside fires popped. So now its the plastic triangles. The more you know... |

Hmm, things may have changed in the last few months. The 8-12 packs via amazon prime have completely disappeared from amazon. I did find a case of 72 10 minute flares for $129, plus $45 shipped. Obviously charging for hazmat.
