I usually drink shiner bock and it is 12 ounces.
IIRC I have seen some American beer with 11.2. But I can't remember which. |

It's called inflation. Some people say it doesn't exist. It does.
Companies are faces with two options, charge more for the same or reduce the size. Consumers prefer to pay the same price for less as opposed to paying more for the same, so take a guess as to why things are getting smaller. It would be like gas stations advertising gas by the 1/2 gallon, for the same price as it was in 2000. |

what beer is this. Well, today we went to lunch at a Peruvian place. I tried 2 bottled beers, Quesquena? and Cristal. But American beers do it too. http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/008/189/demotivational-posters-well-theres-your-problem6.jpg Lol. The beers were both pedestrian but certainly not bad. I just saw a chance to try two beers I had never seen. |

Here's the real reason:
* Belgian beers are typically more highly carbonated than even American lager. * A typical abbey trippel might have as much as 3.5-4 volumes of CO2 in it, which means that at room temperature, it'll exert around 14-16psi on its container. * A typical craft beer is around 10-11psi, and even highly-carbonated light lagers like Coors light aren't more than 12-13psi. * If you put the high-pressure beer into a low-pressure bottle, it'll explode. * The only way to make the bottles stronger is to make the glass thicker. * There are outside dimensional constraints, however, because the shelf spacing, case size, and so on is industry standard. If you make the bottles too out-of-shape, it costs more to package and transport them. This is one of the major reasons why Duvel/Maredsous is so expensive, because they use nonstandard packaging. But, those bottles are exceptionally strong. * So, to make the glass thicker, but keep the outside dimensions the same, you have to sacrifice a little bit of volume. That, and... 11.2 ounces is an even 1/3 of a liter. You're not really getting cheated out of two sips of beer; it's just that you're buying on a different system of weights and measures. |

POS. Take out your racist slur out of here. IBTB Sometimes it's better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. That word doesn't mean what you think it does. I never heard it before either. Had to look it up just now. You've never heard it because people are afraid to say it because the ignorant will hear it and get upset. A few years ago a public official in DC lost his job for saying that word... some people today revel in their ignorance. Niggardly, by the way, predates the use of "nigger" in English and is no way connected to anything racial. |

niggardly? removed...krp My immediate wikipedia research disproves my old post though. so ugh. Would you find it appropriate to say that in public? Edited slightly Absolutely. I've used it quite a few times. Except the people I talked to were apparently smarter than a second grader and knew what it meant. I guess it's use varies by location? |

There's only 3 races on earth and nothing will change that except interbreeding which will constitute a mixing of races. Mongoloid, Negroid, and Caucasoid. |
