Have seen and handled a LOT of stripers over the years, but never weighed any that big:
Back in the '80s, our scale only went to 60#, but it did get bottomed out from time to time, a few that I'm sure were north of 70#. Had a male do it once, by far the BIGGEST male we'd ever seen (usually big ones are ALL females!!!) Once has over a dozen above 50# in ONE day (gillnetting) |

What is a landlocked river? Alabama ain't even a landlocked state. In the context of the article, what does "landlocked" mean? 25 years ago, catching 40 pounders seemed to be routine, and so, I would have gussed the WR would be much bigger than 70 lbs. It's certainly a big-ass fish. I'd be proud of it. |

Nice one.
We have one of those steamplant cooling water creeks around here. The thing steams in the winter time. The water stays bath water warm all year around and therefore it's a popular fishing spot. You can catch speckled trout and stripers in there pretty much all year around. Of course there is the rumor you will grow a third eye eating the fish from there, but that's just rumor. |
