Have seen and handled a LOT of stripers over the years, but never weighed any that big:
Back in the '80s, our scale only went to 60#, but it did get bottomed out from time to time, a few that I'm sure were north of 70#.
Had a male do it once, by far the BIGGEST male we'd ever seen (usually big ones are ALL females!!!)

Once has over a dozen above 50# in ONE day (gillnetting)

...landed a 70 pound striped bass from the Black Warrior River...

The catch may become the new IGFA world record for a landlocked stripe bass.

What is a landlocked river? Alabama ain't even a landlocked state.

In the context of the article, what does "landlocked" mean?

25 years ago, catching 40 pounders seemed to be routine, and so, I would have gussed the WR would be much bigger than 70 lbs.

It's certainly a big-ass fish. I'd be proud of it.

Nice one.

We have one of those steamplant cooling water creeks around here. The thing steams in the winter time. The water stays bath water warm all year around and therefore it's a popular fishing spot. You can catch speckled trout and stripers in there pretty much all year around. Of course there is the rumor you will grow a third eye eating the fish from there, but that's just rumor.

Yes. The current record for a landlocked striper is 67lb 8oz; caught May 1992 in O'Neill Forebay, Los Banos, California.

No, this fish beat the prior record BY 15 lbs, not of 15 lbs.

Still, damn. I had no idea they could get that big.

My personal best striper (24lbs, 5oz, Lake Texoma) would be nothing but bait for that bastard.

Me too. I was hoping to get a fishing expert's opinion and details. Like: 1) Can parts of the same river be landlocked and other parts, not. 2) Does landlocked mean saltwater fish are proven to be unable to get in, or proven to be unable to go back and forth, or, are landlocked rivers assumed to be closed to saltwater fish? 3) Is a dam with a lock system considered to be the same as a dam with a ladder? Etc..

I guess I'm really wondering how strong the word "landlocked" in the record's description or category.
