I'm in Orange County as well and heard about this on Friday after it passed the day before. Ulster County is also standing up to Albany and Orange & Ulster officials are joining forces to form a united front.

Aside from the liberal cesspool known as NYC, more and more counties, law enforcement and sheriff's organizations are coming out in force against the abomination that is the SAFE act. Honestly, I've never seen NYS so united against any one single thing since 9/11. Here's hoping for the best...

A friend there told me the Sheriff of Putnam county has said he won't be making arrests based on the new law unless another crime is being committed.If you remember Greg Ball's great performance in the legislature,that's where he is from. It's only an hour train ride from Grand Central.
I have my doubts Cuomo's BS will be overturned but one thing is for sure,this little stunt to set himself up for 2016 has already backfired. He's such an arrogant prick that he'll never back down though. |

There's too many of us refusing to comply. It's in NY's best interest to back down before they cross the line fully and end up with millions of new armed "criminals" to deal with. The cops aren't stupid. They know how this will play out if they're painted into a corner by Gov. Andy. |

In my opinion there are multiple benefits to being able to point to a number of counties whose opposition to the unSAFE act is officially on record. If it is ignored by the governor's office, perhaps it will be relevant during the legal challenges to this disaster of a law. |

Really? Did he employ even a single brain cell to analyze the connection (or lack thereof) between SAFE and his safety in school? Just sucking up to Albany. ETA: AL Buckbee: needs to return to civics 101. He's going off about how the Second Amendment (USC) forbids CONGRESS from infringing on the right to keep and bear arms, but how the state government is not thus restricted. He's forgetting about 14A due process incorporation, which took place for 2A. So the 2A of USC does prohibit states from doing what Cuomo did. How are these people running the government.

And what happens if you're an Orange County resident IN Orange County NY obeying the laws of the County and the NY State police decide to throw the book at you?
