Meh - business as usual for Maryland gun control legislative hearings.  

While supposedly listening to citizen testimony (i.e. - doing their jobs) they have in past years:

-text on cell phones/blackberrys

-written notes (cross-word puzzles?)

-rolled eyes, smirked, or otherwise demeaned constituants, and

-simply gotten up and left.

This sort of crap will ONLY stop when we begin holding our elected reps accountable for actions like this.

Worst part is, it's not just the Dems doing this.  Current crop of most Repubs don't give a shit what the commoners have to say.  The new ruling class......these people are so narcissistic they believe they are untouchable.

This is what happens when your leaders think they are above the people somehow.  They represent the people, and therfore should logically be submissive to them, not dominant.  That was the mistake, the people stopped keeping their leaders in check, so now they have taken more power than they are due, like usual with unchecked power

At least this guy pretends that he cares.  Obama could hardly to troubled to show up and vote during his partial term in the senate.

I was there yesterday, BTW.  The crowd was between 1000 and 3000 - huge for a MD bill hearing.  

The line for those wishing to testify was very very long.  State police shut the line down by 1 PM or so and told the rest that they would not be able to testify.  They also shot down the MD Senate building since there were too many people who wanted to speak to their state reps.  

Hopefully someone told the committee about the number of voters shut out of the building.

I'm not a republican, but I can say this, a bunch of republican legislators were out with us yesterday in the cold, proudly saying "no new gun control", thats good enough for me.

Tar and feather his ass or stfu.

His staff won't enjoy the vitriol.  Some might turn on him and find his porn stash.

Reminds me of our politicians who have been caught sleeping during hearings.

on the bright side, so many of us showed up to testify against the bill that they literally had to shut down the fire marshall had to close the senate building.

Perhaps the retard MD State Trooper that detained me and threatened me with a "Come to Jesus Meeting" slept through his HR218 LEOSA training for having my department weapon with a magazine on me.  He didn't seem like the chess type, more of a solitaire or MS Paint mouth breather.  I own up when I do something wrong, whether intentional or not.  But to pull me out of the road, with hand on his gun at all times, telling me it's too close to have my gun, and I should be going to jail.  I wish he had now, I would've had a nice settlement from him and his agency.  I think MD is filled with morons on so many levels, I see it's all the way to the top.

Here is the e-mail i sent to the Senator, with a Cc to my MD Delegate (Mark Fisher) and my MD Senator (Mike Miller, also MD Senate President):

Senator Raskin,

I have included my Delegate and Senator on this message as I am not a resident of your district.  However, because of your status as a member of various Maryland Senate Committees, you represent the entire body of Maryland’s citizens.

I am a 12 year resident of the State of Maryland.  I am a hard working husband and father, voter, taxpayer and veteran.  I was in attendance at yesterday’s hearings.  I used my personal leave time and incurred personal expense to spend the day in Annapolis; participating in the legislative process.

Thousands showed up to support their positions and peacefully express their opinions.  So many, the Fire Marshal was forced to shut down the Maryland Senate building due to the amount of people in line to sign in to testify.  So many regular citizens showed up for their allotted 3 minutes that there would have been over 30 hours of testimony if the rules were not "modified" by the Committee Chairperson.

I find the images of you playing games on your laptop while the Peoples’ business is being conducted as a very inconsiderate and reprehensible action.  The people you represent would face severe administrative sanctions or termination from their jobs for similar behavior.    

Your actions show your true level of interest and respect given to The People.  An elected official should never treat the people they serve with contempt.    

Senator Raskin, you have disgraced your office and disrespected the people you serve.  If you can't be bothered to listen to testimony about such a "sensitive and important public safety issue", where people have taken time away from their jobs and families to speak up and attend the hearings, please do all of us in the State of Maryland a favor and resign.

You sir, lack the moral fiber and common decency to hold the office of Senator of the State of Maryland, and We, The People, deserve better.
