The Senate is currently 53 Democrat vs 45 Republican with 2 Dem-leaning Independents.
In 2014, 20 Democratic Senators will be up for re-election (vs only 13 Reps up for re-election).  If Democrats lose just 6 seats out of those 20, they will lose control of the Senate (where Obama's next SCOTUS nominees are confirmed, or not as the case may be).
They are very likely to lose at least a few seats - historically a second-term President's party loses seats on off-year Congressional elections. The last time a major controversial gun-control law was passed was the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban. The resulting annihilation of election losses for Democrats because of that were legendary and are still talked about with dread within the Democratic halls even today, 20 years later.
Our plan is simple - focus our effort and get to the core group the Democratic Senators who are most likely to face a difficult re-election, and turn the heat up on them until they surrender on supporting any new gun-control bills that Obama wants them to pass.
So without further adieu, I give you our own "Gang Of Seven" Democratic Senators in gun friendly states up for re-election in 2014:
1. Alaska - Mark Begich won by 1-point in 2008 after Republican Ted Stevens was convicted of minor crimes just days before the general election. Begich also provided the 60th vote for Obamacare.

D.C. (202) 224 - 3004
AK: (877) 501-6275 (Toll-free for callers with an Alaska (907) area code)
2. Arkansas - Mark Pryor didn’t face opposition in 2008, but fellow Democrat Senator Blanche Lincon lost by 21 points in 2010.  Pryor also voted for Obamacare too.
http://www.pryor.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=ContactForm
D.C. (202) 224-2353
AR: (501) 324-6336

3. Louisiana - Mary Landrieu
has won election to the US Senate by an average of just 3 points in three elections. She also was one of only six Democrat Senators to vote AGAINST renewing the Assault Weapon Ban in 2004. Romney won LA by 18 pts.
http://www.landrieu.senate.gov/?p=contact
D.C.  202-224-5824
LA: 318-676-3085
4. Montana - Max Baucus was another Democrat who voted AGAINST renewing the Assault Weapon Ban in 2004. He may be difficult to unseat, but he still needs to be reminded that Montana is a very pro-gun state. Romney won MT by 13pts.
http://www.baucus.senate.gov/?p=contact
D.C. (202) 224-2651
From Montana (toll-free): (800) 332-6106
5. North Carolina - Kay Hagan will be facing voters in a state that Romney won in 2012 and whose Democratic Governor was so unpopular she didn't even run for re-election. Hagen is also currently in negative-territory in approval ratings in her state too.
http://www.hagan.senate.gov/contact/
D.C.  202-224-6342
NC (Raleigh) 919-856-4630

6. South Dakota - Tim Johnson
is another "moderate” Democrat in a heavy Republican-Red state.  He voted for Obamacare and needs to know what it means to represent a pro-2nd Amendment RED state. By the way, the state's lone Congresswoman, Republican Kristi Noem (who was also supported by Sarah Palin), was just re-elected by 15 points in 2012.
http://www.johnson.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=ContactForm
D.C. (202) 224-5842
SD (Rapid City) (605) 341-3990
7. Virginia - Mark Warner supposedly got an "A" rating from the NRA, but that was before he came out supporting more restrictions on guns after Newton, including a new assault-weapon ban. If anyone needs a good "get your head on straight" reminder regarding gun-control and re-elections, it's Mark Warner.
http://www.warner.senate.gov/public//index.cfm?p=ContactPage
D.C. 202-224-2023
VA (Richmond) 804-775-2314
NOTE: Although Nevada Senator Harry Reid isn't up for re-election, he did vote AGAINST renewing the Assault Weapon Ban in 2004 and he is still the Senate Majority Leader. He holds sway over what bills come up for votes.  If there's ONE thing Reid wants more than anything - it's to stay Majority Leader. He'll do anything to keep from giving Republicans more anger against his weak Democratic Senators who are up for re-election.

So there you go - these are the seven Democratic Senators MOST vulnerable to the effect of ANY gun-control bills coming out of the Senate.
Let them know how vulnerable they are.

In addition, call your Representatives because they're ALL up for re-election again in 2014 too!
And if you're not a constituent of any of the above Senators - call your own Senator anyway and DEMAND that they reject any gun-control bills and tell them to focus on A) Improving Mental Healthcare and B) Improving School Security.

And these are the Republicans up for re-election:
Now, there are also only 13 Republican Senators up for relection in 2014, most of them in gun-friendly red-states, with one notable exception (Maine's Susan Collins who was one of 10 RINOs who voted FOR renewing the AWB in 2004).
Alabama - Jeff Sessions won by 26 points in 2008 and Romney took Alabama by points in 2012.

D.C.  (202) 224-4124

So as far as 2014, the Democrats need to be sweating bullets if they think they can pass gun-control and keep control of the Senate.
We need to put pressure on these guys like it's March 2004 again (if you remember, that's when the AWB-renewal was ultimately defeated in the Senate with an absolute HURRICANE of fury from gun-owners and the NRA).
In opposing any new "assault-weapon" ban, we also must just as strongly oppose any kind of "high-capacity" magazine ban or "gun-show loophole" legislation too.
If we want to compromise, fine - we'll support doubling funding and strengthening healthcare for mental illness, providing more security for schools and allowing teachers and administrators who are properly trained to carry guns if they wish to protect themselves and our kids in their classes. We have no problem with armed security guards at banks and ballgames - is money in a bank and athletes on the field more valuable than our kids in school?

They can't possibly have forgotten the blood bath of 1994. The AWB passed in September 94, The mid term election in Nov. 94 brought a 54 seat swing to give the Repubs control of The House for the first time in 40 years.

There is a movement amongst Gun Owners in Western MT to organize politically against Mr. Max Baucus in 2014 if he does not represent the people of this State in regards to our 2nd. Amendment rights.

MT State Weapons Collector Society, who sponsor about 3/4 of the Gunshows in this state is going to be watching him closely & monitoring his behavior (& Sen. Testers, for that matter) in the upcoming Senate discussions regarding MS. FineSwines bill & a number of 'other' proposed anti-gun bills, if they actually make it out of committee...

May I propose that in addition to this great list, we find a Senator who has already annouced support for bans and make an example of them in 2014?  Let's find one of the weaker ones and support his primary opponents and then support his general opponents if that fails.  Let's lop some figurative heads off and mount them on pikes as warnings to others.

The reply I received from Senator Mark Warner (D) of VA:

Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut and your views on gun control.

On December 14, 2012, 20 innocent children and six adults lost their lives in one of the worst, most tragic shootings to ever occur in the United States. As a parent of three daughters, this was the ultimate nightmare. Like the Virginia Tech and Columbine shootings, this tragedy unfolded in what was once regarded as a safe haven free of crime and violence: a school.

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I own firearms and I have an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association. However, I also recognize that, like with many of our constitutional rights, our Second Amendment rights are not without limits. It is unfortunate that a tragedy of this magnitude is what is needed to prompt action, but we need to have a serious discussion on how to best avoid these kinds of mass shootings in the future. The status quo is not acceptable.

I believe our discussion should cover many issues. We can start by improving the existing criminal background check system. Currently, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is woefully incomplete, with many states failing to submit available records on persons who may be disqualified from purchasing or possessing firearms. With a more complete background check system, we can keep firearms out of the hands of those who have been deemed unfit to possess them.

In addition, we can take common sense measures such as passing the CAMPUS Safety Act (S. 3682), which I introduced last year. That bill would establish a national center for campus public safety within the Department of Justice to serve as a resource center and assist schools and universities in developing campus safety plans and threat assessment tools. We also need to look at changes to our mental health system so we can provide help to those with dangerous mental illnesses before it is too late. There will not be a single solution, but all of these issues and others need to be part of the conversation and I urge you to continue to express your views as we move forward.

Again, thank you for contacting me. For further information or to sign up for my newsletter please visit my website at http://warner.senate.gov.

EXCELLENT POST! I have already been contacting all my reps from NC every couple days by e-mail and phone paying special attention to Hagan. I talked with one of her aides yesterday afternoon and told them it was expected for her to uphold the oath she swore and not tow the party line. I will be calling again on Monday to remind them again as well as letting them know I will be spending every available dime including my time to see she doesn't get reelected.

Hagan will screw us.  She supported a ban in 2009, but won't make the same comment in the form letters she is sending out now.  She is probably gone come mid terms since she rode in on the annointed ones coat tails in 08.  I just hope she does as little damage as possible between now and then.

Sen. Jean Shaheen (D) in NH should be on that list too.

She's somewhat vulnerable in the midterms, especially if 2014 is anything like 2010.

It's going to be nice to get rid of Begich. He is only there because the DOJ ran a shoddy witch hunt against Ted Stevens, who was immediately exonerated AFTER he lost the election

Democrat Senate candidates run in Alaska saying "I can convince other Democrats to support oil development"  Yeah they're going to listen to a junior Senator from Alaska instead of their environmentalist mega-donors

Begich could have held up ObamaCare to get ANWR opened, but he was happy to bend over for Harry Reid and Obama asking nothing in return.

Don't forget that WV Senator Jay Rockefeller is retiring in 2014 and his seat is now up for grabs. Senator Rockefeller had a NRA "D" rating and was not a good vote, his name, tenure, and money kept him in office. Congresswoman Capito   who is current rated NRA "A".

While this may not be helpful this year, it will be helpful in future years to be rid of his vote in the Senate. This will be one of those elections where the Democrats have to spend lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
