Dr on one, surgeon on other. That was an odd one. I do know some surgeons for whom the difference between living in their big house and living in "the big house" is only due to staying on the right side of the law. I also know plenty of surgeons who are very compassionate and well-grounded, FWIW. |

About the book that spawned this list:
Dutton argues that there are indeed “functional psychopaths” among us—different from their murderous counterparts—who use their detached, unflinching, and charismatic personalities to succeed in mainstream society, and that shockingly, in some fields, the more “psychopathic” people are, the more likely they are to succeed.

What's the difference between God and a cardiovascular surgeon?
God doesn't think HE'S a cardiovascular surgeon. And yes, nurses are crazy. |

The creators of netscape were bipolar.
Imagine, if they had been treated for their disorder, The internet wouldn't be what it is today. Steve Jobs was bipolar as well. Loads of CEO's are bipolar and have ADD from what I heard. It's a good thing we are treating all the kids with bipolar and ADD, we are less likely to have new companies. |

In other news, engineers did not place on the Psychopath list but came in number two behind "gun show beef jerky vendor" for the Really Fucking Weird list

There are PLENTY of crazy nurses out there. Crazy is not psychopathic. Psychopathy is the modern more clearly defined replaement for the word sociopath. Not to be confused w/ psychotic, that is having a break from reality and seeing things that aren't there, extreme paranoia etc. Psychopathy means that one is unable to have any empathy. Not just that they can suspend empathy from an enemy or whatever, most people can do that, but that they are unable to have empathy to begin with. This is not a choice, it is a fact of how they are and they cannot be rebilitated by any know means. It is unclear if people or born as such or if it occurs at somepoint during childhood and if so whether it is purely physiological or partially experiential. This is good to know and it is good to point out that psychopathy occurs in about 1% of women and 3% of men last time I heard. |

Bipolar has nothing to do w/ Sociopathy/Psychopathy. BiPolar is either neurosis or psychosis but psychosis and phychopathy are not the same thing at all. |

UM Pretty sure COPS should be number one.
I have several cops as friends and they are easily the most crooked, criminal individuals I know. It only stands to reason. A cop is a job that you have to desire and pursue and is NOT an elected position. So the next logical question is, who would desire to be a cop? Is it someone who really wants to serve and protect the public, uphold the law and effect a meaningful and positive change in the community OR is it a scumbag who was picked on as a kid, has an anger issue, low self esteem, never felt "part" of anything, a flat out bully, who wants to be above the law or just someone who thinks having a badge and a gun would be "cool"? Its the latter. And its strange that they enjoy all kinds of liberties we do not. For instance, I routinely see cops just speeding because they can. Who is policing them? Why do they have the right? What says they can drive at high speed better than you or I? Nothing. I also love how it's always mentioned, as a matter to minimize what they have done, that they are a police officer if they are ever actually caught and prosecuted for a crime. How about we introduce a bill that TRIPLES the sentences for cops who commit crimes? Oh, and even in my little town, there isn't one single cop who makes less than 100k a year. And pls don't cite the "a lot of it is overtime" routine because I know plenty of people that don't make shit and CAN'T get any overtime. But hey, those 5 state highway workers watching a 6th one push a broom just wouldn't be the same without a cop or two standing around them, talking on their cell phone and making time and a half or double time. |

What's the difference between God and a cardiovascular surgeon? God doesn't think HE'S a cardiovascular surgeon. And yes, nurses are crazy. "I have an M.D. from Harvard, I am board certified in cardio-thoracic medicine and trauma surgery, I have been awarded citations from seven different medical boards in New England, and I am never, ever sick at sea. So I ask you; when someone goes into that chapel and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their wife doesn't miscarry or that their daughter doesn't bleed to death or that their mother doesn't suffer acute neural trama from postoperative shock, who do you think they're praying to? Now, go ahead and read your Bible, _Dennis_, and you go to your church, and, with any luck, you might win the annual raffle, but if you're looking for God, he was in operating room number two on November 17, and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something: I am God. " - Dr Jed Hill Malice (1993) |
