I had lunch today with a staff member for Sen. Isakson regarding any new gun ban. She was 100% on top of her game and presented me with statistics that are used by both sides to debate gun legislation. I was IMPRESSED to say the least.
I was happy to learn that they do not expect any type of new firearm legislation to pass regarding firearms. Here is the bad news. They do expect a ban on high capacity magazines over 10 rounds on a national level. I will not go into detail, but that is the expectation right now. Good luck everyone and Merry Christmas. ETA #1: I will go into detail since it was asked. There is a chance the GOP will cave on the high cap magazine issue in trade for pushing the tax on the rich up to $750K - $1M mark in stead of the $250K - $400K on the table now. ETA #2: Because I am dumb...I did not ask the question about grandfather magazines. I doubt I asked because a pure ban on those items would be so hard to enforce. At least in my opinion. |

They expect this to pass the House??
If so, the Republican party need not exist. |
|
Any mention on whether its a ban on new sale/ possession with existing mags grandfathered or a worse possession of all mags banned?

It's in the Republican platform so they better not let it pass.
Drop a poison pill in that motherfucker if you have to. |

And just how are they going to vote when this "issue" comes due? Actions have consequences. They need to be reminded of this. |

I was already thinking this. My guess would be mag capacity capped at 10 rounds by executive order rather than legislation. |

No. What good are they with 10rd mags ? I don't want a regulated MG anyway. I'd rather have a free semi auto. Not a good trade. |
|
And why wouldn't you go into detail?
Why bother telling us you won't go into detail, it would give you plausible deniability of details you know, because now we know you know something and won't share. Did you sign an NDA? ETA: Thanks for clarifying OP |

Since there are several million, "high cap", ( their words, not mine), magazines out there, it may take a while. And for the ones already loaded up, I wish them much bad luck. Attrition is the word that comes to mind.

Honestly, if the only thing to come out of it was a mag ban grandfathered or not, I would be relatively happy.
Considering the shit they are trying to pull in CT right now like redefining an assault weapon to anything having a pistol grip, forced registration of every gun biannually, 50% ammo tax, etc. Fuck me sideways. |
|
Rs will claim they stood fast on guns , while selling out on the mag issue.
And they will wonder why they will get voted out in 2014. |
|
Legislation regarding magazines would, in fact, be "firearms legislation".

Can any of our GA members call Sen. Isakson's office and confirm this...and if true, find out how he plans to vote on a bill?

Trading the Bill of Rights for short term tax legislation.
If the GOP is that short-sighted, they will have lost this GOP voter who has been with them for the last 23 voting years-- and my entire family. |

A mag ban is gonna be pretty hard to enforce, IMHO.
For instance, say I'm shooting my G23 at the range - is someone going to inspect the mag before I shoot? Is anyone going to sit there with a bean counter for each shot fired? |
|
If true and big if on this, there is a zero chance I will ever vote for a Republican again.

I'd still like to know if the proposed ban they expect to happen has grandfathering.

Let's be honest...you'd be best off ignoring the ban either way. Mass non-compliance is a moral obligation here, not to mention possibly a constitutionally support one. |
|
One thing to add.
TEXAS is the state the GOP is worried about in 2016. There is a very real chance it will turn blue due to the Hispanic rise in population predicted over the next four years. |
|
I will vote Libertarian or write in Chuck Norris on every ballot for the rest of my life if they do this.
|
|
I'd rather there was no grandfathering just so all the "at least I've got mine" types would nut up and fight politically.

Since I am in Georgia , I will actively campaign for his replacement. He has had my last vote if he caves. If I vote a liberal democrat I get less lies.

If that is true that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard and the GOP has truly lost their collective minds.
|
|
Need more details before contactinf reps to let them know they will reap the whirlwind over this. I will never vote R again and I will support primary and general election opponents of anyone who votes for this until they are defeated
|

The new republican party is just the democrat party 4 years ago.

Put simply: Every dollar I used to spend on firearm supplies - specifically, on those magazines you talk of banning - will now be donated to your opponent's election fund. |
