You proved a bunch of people wrong about their choice of wiener.

Good job.

I always grill whatever hot dogs I buy, no matter what. To me that is the only way to cook them, they just taste better. Even the cheap ones.

People, please don't boil hot dogs (or 1911s ). If you live in an apartment or its too cold to grill, get a Foreman grill. They're great for doing small batches of meat quickly. They're actually ideal for hot dogs .

I only buy Hebrew National, Nathans, and Dietz & Watson hotdogs these days.

Must be natural casing, must be grilled.

"Skinless" dogs are wrong.

What the heck is on the end of that first one? Looks like it's got a tumor or it's pooing off the end of the table.

That's extra tasty, that's what it is.

If you can't grill them due to weather then you can broil them in the oven. It's better than boiling.
Link Posted: 10/31/2012 9:47:56 AM EST
Hebrew National are salty shit. Nathans or Oscar Mayer Angus when it comes to store bought dogs.

Does a full size 1911 fit in a George Foreman grill?

I get the Hebrew Nationals in hopes that they are of higher quality. I will try Nathan's and Boar's Head based on the endorsements here.

I agree. I stand corrected!

OM has a very distinct flavor that I believe may be caused by the use of opiates or some other equally addictive substance.

Hebrew National is good - real good - but there's something unique about an Oscar Meyer weiner.

I worked at hebrew national for years.

the job sucked, but the product was probably the best you can buy.
all beef, fat is added per recipe, good clean food.

my problem with it is the salt. by koshering it is run thru a brine solution for a specified amount of time. so its a bit salty for me, but
still better than all the others.

one product they have is 95% beef, the dogs are really RED.

Sabretts and Nathans FTMFW!
I eat those two brands with mustard only... any other additional condiments and toppings just ruin it for me.

Worth repeating.

Though I don't mind chili (no beans) on a dog, or when I'm feeling like a million bucks, some Famous Dave's Spicy Relish on, along with the mustard.

The mustard is important too...Guldens is the gold standard (pardon the pun). However, yellow mustard doubled up with horseradish mustard works real well too...

Not a huge Hoffman's fan, though my girl (from Homer, NY) is. When I lived in Syracuse, I was more of a Pudgy's Pizza guy and not into the hot dog scene.

I'll state it again...Nathan's FTW.

This. I thought because they're kosher, they made to a higher standard, less bug part, too.

There's a restaurant here that offers "real Chicago dogs", the same ones they serve at Wrigley Field.

It was good, but worth the $5 I paid for it.

Vienna Beef natural casing above all, all brisket plus seasonings

I try the "good" hot dogs once or twice a year thinking this new brand just may be the one. I still always hate them. Brats for the win.

I don't know, as I don't own a 1911.

I put a Glock in there for a little while, and it made a funny smell so I removed it. Now it's a custom Glock and I will ask $50 above retail for it in the EE.

I've found the low fat ones actually taste better than the fully loaded ones because they're not as greasy.

We eat them because there's no slaughter house floor sweepings in them.
Link Posted: 10/31/2012 1:04:42 PM EST
I've had ten in the last two days. No buns of course. Buns make you fat, not the hot dog.
Link Posted: 10/31/2012 3:20:59 PM EST
Any hotdog I eat gets Bertman Ball Park mustard, as long as it is available. It isn't for everyone, but I have been partial to it as a mandatory dog topper since I was a kid. For me, it makes most any hotdog palatable. Still, nothing beats a good natural-casing hotdog, made by a competent butcher. After that, I would say that Sabrett would be my next choice. Unfortunately, you can't get them at the local supermarkets.

I have tried a few of the different HNs over the years, but I can't quite develop a taste for them. They are OK with heavy mustard, but kind of gross otherwise.

Nathan's grilled for the win. I had Nathan's dogs at an actual Nathan's shop recently and they were the best.

Boiled hotdogs just aren't right...

if you must do it make sure you save the water. It is like Chanel #5 to the people in the local trailer parks

Yep.
I wouldn't even eat hot dogs when I was a kid. Other kids & their parents thought I was an alien because I wouldn't eat them or other "kid food", probably because my mom was a good cook. (Hated Chef Boyardee, Kraft macaroni & cheese, etc. too.) Stayed that way until I tried a kosher all beef dog a couple of years ago because I was famished. (Hebrew National) I thought maybe I remembered the taste of the "normal" hot dog brands wrong, so I bought some Oscar Meyer dogs. Nope, I was right. They taste like a nasty, spongy meatmallow.

Link Posted: 10/31/2012 6:05:12 PM EST
Bean's Hot Dogs are imo the best ever.

Link Posted: 10/31/2012 6:10:29 PM EST
They are kosher.

If that is important to you.......buy them. If not........why the hell buy them ?
Link Posted: 10/31/2012 6:12:20 PM EST
I stopped buying them a couple years ago when I bit into one and came out with hotdog and a 3/4" long (I'm assuming plastic) cleaning brush bristle.

Fucking terrible.. Hot dogs shouldn't be greasy. Nathan's sucks too.

We have a few regional brands that are awesome. Muckes or grote and weigle.

Regional is the only way to go.

Around here, Koegels, Kowalski, and Dearborn Sausage are tops.

You will find that the oven does just as good of a job. Put that bastard on 500 turn em once and you're ready to eat.

It works for Brauts too, just use some foil over them, or you will set off the smoke alarm.
