The set I bought includes both the Blu-ray and the DVD.  I've tried both, neither works.

Might need to update your software, could be a DRM issue.

It's not on netflix yet so I haven't actually seen it.

To be serious and helpful for a moment, the DVD might have some new type of copy protection that your drive, software or both can't decode.
That has happened to me several times over the years.

Probably can't keep people from making copies so they just make it so it doesn't work on a PC.  Wouldn't put it past them.

I have several movies that won't play in my primary DVD player. Mainly Pathfinder, Resident Evil Apocalypse, Terminator 3 and a couple others. My player is a DVD/VHS combo and I've always figured something in the copy protection thinks the VCR is trying to record the disc. All work fine on my portable DVD player so I just use an adapter cable and hook that up to my TV when I want to watch one of those movies.

If you're asking me, Not unless they're mislabelled and mispackaged. All are either marked region 1 or no/all region. Both DVD players are marked Region 1, that's why I figured the problem lies with the combo unit.

It's a terrible movie.  The "story" is laughable - clearly just some flimsy excuse to get all the characters shoehorned into the same comic-book hero movie - and other than the occasional hilarious Joss Wheaton one-liners, the writing and acting is pretty awful.

I'd heard a lot of good things about the movie, and was excited to watch it (so I didn't go in expecting it to be bad), and I was just shocked at how terrible it was.

I wasn't blown away by the story and was a little disappointed that Click To View Spoiler and it certainly had a few holes, but but by superhero movie standards it was excellent and even by regular movie standards it is still pretty good.  Topped only by Iron Man 1 and The Dark Knight, IMO.

I really felt that there was good chemistry among the main actors and they all played their parts well.

I can understand not being a fan of the movie, because people have different tastes, but to say it is terrible makes me question whether or not we saw the same movie.

Did you like any of the recent superhero movies?

Not unprecedented.

The "Star Trek" reboot (2009) played scenes in apparently random order, when placed in my PC DVD-ROM drive.  I can only attribute this to the DVD publisher getting too "clever" with copy prevention nonsense.

I have had a couple of other DVDs just flat refuse to play, probably for the same reason.

Sorry, but DK Prof is correct in his assessment.

Joss Whedon can produce better than that.

I saw the Avengers DVD upon release and it was mediocre at best.  The plot sucked.

Compare the Avengers to the first Iron Man, X Men or Spiderman.

The only things I can think of and order I would try:

-Make sure the disc isn't defective/try in a different DVD player
-Check for codec update for player software
-Try different media player
-Try reinstalling/updating driver for DVD drive
-Virus scan
-Use a system restore point

ETA: if it still doesn't work at that point, your DVD drive may be defective...but you said it's not that, so I'm out of ideas.

You expected that Hulk was some code word for Captain America's sled at the end or something?
