So I'm looking at investing in a pallets worth of ammo. Anyone know the best place to go? About how much it would it cost with shipping?

In all seriousness... ask the store manager or assistant store manager at your local Walmart. You might be able to avoid shipping costs, but you'll have to pay sales tax.
Graf's does quite a bit of wholesale business too. |

Cabela's has the best price of .22LR at about $.026 shipped when their Federal 375 packs are on sale.

Let's see... according to Wiki, the size of a North American ISO pallet is 48"x40" (although others are used in this country too). Let's go with a height of 36".
My Wal-mart Federal red box, 550ct, measure 2 7/8" deep, 3.5" wide, and 4" tall. Depending on how we orient the boxes on the pallet, it would be... 16 boxes deep (48/2.875) 11 boxes wide (40/3.5) 9 boxes high (36/4) That's 1,584 boxes of 550 rounds, or 871,200 rounds total. This does not take into account the size of any cartons that may be used, but even if you knock off 10%, that's still over 784,000 rounds, or as Arfcom would call it, a pleasant afternoon. |

I keep on hand at least 25k of .22 at any given time. It's stored in three containers. I could not imagine how many rounds a whole pallet would contain.

I don't have a scale to weigh the box I just measured. 
But, I do have a powder scale to weigh one round. One round of the 36gr plated stuff comes in at 48.5 grains. That gives us a box weight of 26,675 grains, divided by 7,000, 3.81 pounds per box (lets assume the carboard weighs zero). 3.81 * 1,584 = 6,035 pounds. Less 10%, that would be 5,432 pounds. Also, at $15 per box, times 1,584 boxes, that would be $23,760. |

We've done this before. The club bought a pallet of Green Tag and distributed it to members. They only stacked 3 boxes tall, apparently the weight crushes the boxes if stacked any higher. IIRC I got 9K. That was back in 88 or 89 and I still have some.

OP, if you get that much ammo, the ATF's going to come to your house, shoot your dogs and send you to federal pound me in the ass prison for having shoes with strings next to your AR's.

I remember stocking the shelves with CCI 500 packs.
Unloading all we had and shelving it, I took the time to multiply out how many rounds we had on the shelf. I don't remember the exact figure, but it was over a million rounds. |
