Which is why you roll the dice anytime you cheat on your spouse because if they find out you can be disciplined for it, unlike anywhere else in the U.S. Government (including, obviously, the Oval Office). We've reached a point as a society where it is more important that the individual has the freedom of choice, than the military has the freedom to craft policies based on discipline and effectiveness. I have yet to hear a single good argument as to why the repeal of DADT (or the passage of DADT in the first place) would increase military effectiveness. Granted my POV is a little skewed since my first few years in the military were in an infantry battalion. There, where everyone lives together in squad bays, the last thing you need is members of the same unit messing around with each other. In gender integrated units this is already a pretty big headache. |

Inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Concepts like this have been around for some time. Oh, you're right, I completely forgot! Thanks to the enumeration of those rights, nobody ever gets persecuted in this country- or at least if they do, the persecutor gets arrested and tried for persecution. Gosh, with all that case law on "persecution" verdicts out there, how could I have missed that?
Seriously though- you forget that the rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" do not free you from outside criticism (/persecution) of you exercising any of those rights. Or have you never heard of the Westboro Baptist Church? |
