I'm looking to install a garage door keypad. Looking around it seems everything is wireless and they all look shitty and cheaply made.

Anyone know any good completely wired systems? Even most of the wired systems still depend on a battery, which I don't like either.

Trying to stay under $100 here.

As far as I know they operate on the same technology as your remote. Cheaply made yes but it works so why overthink it. Wireless is here to stay and chinese wireless is all you will find.

Yup no wired ones exist and even if they did its unlikely your circuit board would even support it. Just get the wireless they are pretty sturdy and easy to install might take 5min so stup being a curmudgeon and get with the times .

I have this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genie-KEP-1-Garage-Door-Opener-UNIVERSAL-Wired-Keypad-/261012628673

I have installed these on my old house 20 years ago and the current house I live in. It uses a flat ribbon wire you fit under the trim. One cannot pry the keypad off and short wires to open the door. I have been very pleased with the unit. it connects to the twisted pair (wires) of the interior "door bell like) button you use to open and close the door in your garage. They are compatible with most openers.

Interesting who knew. My tech would never waste time with such a device but good to know for the DIY it's still easier to just install a wireless and program it.

They work fine. Just install it in a dry spot.

Sweet, thanks, i'll check it out. I'm not against wireless technology, i'm really more against the battery dependence. I know when I need it the most that damn battery will be dead. Also when it gets really cold batteries tend to fail as well.

wired system, I'm sure they exist, not sure what the price point is. My wireless one has been fine for 13 years. change the battery every now and then and its GTG. My wife even hit it with my truck mirror while trying to pull into the garage and it still is GTG..

Corby key will work; but honestly the wireless ones work just fine.

I've had a wireless garage opener for over 10 years. Other than replace the 9 volt battery every once in while, it's been great.
