I hate that story's wording. The story isn't that the picture "went viral". It's that it's a nice picture.
I don't have to be reminded that TV news is weeks behind the internet, and I don't consider that newsworthy. Great picture, though. |

30 second ad to watch a two minute video about a picture that's all over the internet? Goodness, that's an efficient way to discuss this...

Did the dude ever hear of pain killers for dogs or maybe try the bath tub or a pool ? I love my dog but there's no way in hell I'm going swimming in Lake Superior every night so the dog can sleep.

Good point - 19 is hella old for that size dog
My gut still feels this is a story diabolically and brilliantly crafted to make $$ - woman who took the shot is a professional photog - woman is selling the 5 x 7s for $20 apiece - there aren't a series of shots of this occurring...just one picture - that's the oddest thing to me...a pro photographer by design takes a crapload of shots, why don't we see the entire evolution of this event? Someone'll submit it to SNOPES and it'll be found false |

No sense letting the dog suffer. yep, someone I know posted this on facebook and I nearly typed the same thing. I didn't hit submit and let it slide but yea, who are we keeping the dog alive for? The suffering dog or the owner that can't cope? Sad thing about having a dog, you're likely to outlive it, and the next one or two. |

The dog doesn't appear to be suffering in that picture. If I had a choice to face pain all day to fall asleep in the arms of someone who I love and loves me or die... I would gladly face the pain all day. That man is selfless. That picture is beautiful. |

Every once in a while I get a glimmer of hope for mankind. I love my dogs that much. My dog Titan died a few months ago, sweetest dog you ever would have met. To sweet evidently because he contracted diabetes at six years old. Everyone told us to put him down when we found out. Doctors said he had a year at the most. Hard work and perseverance gave us an extra seven years with him. He died of old age not diabetes. Two 22cc doses of insulin twice a day and at least once a week I would prick the inside of his lip to test his sugars. I can honestly say this guy loves his dog as much as I do. Makes me miss my buddy.

oh, don't get me wrong, but at 19 I'm really skeptical. That said, I'm not him or the dog or the vet, and I certainly appreciate the man's love of his faithful friend.
I don't like the notion of disposing of a loved dog for our convenience but I also don't like dogs to suffer. I went through this with our old yellow lab, we kept him too long, about the same age as that one. it took an accidental injury and a trip to a modern vet as our neighborhood vet was out of town to find out a multitude of suffering our dog was enduring. I just thought he was slowing down but he was in a lot of pain, mostly blind with cataracts and his kidneys were nearly shutting down on him. Damn ninja sand. Loved loved loved that dog. Most loyal SoB I ever knew. OK, I got to leave this thread now. |
