Slimjims don't work on a lot of newer cars. My 2000 Dodge Neon made them impossible (it's hard to explain, if you haven't seen the mechanism).

I watched a locksmith use something cooler, though. He dropped a LONG u-shaped rod down the door, twisted it, came up past the underside of the door panel, lifted back up into the interior, and bumped the rocker-style lock with it, from inside the car. Genius.

Better known as an "under the window tool". I had one, got it stuck in a car door once, never got it back.

My father used to tell me, "Jane, just because you have one, doesn't mean you have to be one." That just popped into my mind as I was reading the OP's posts. I have no idea why.

I have a little plastic box attached to the frame of my car with a plain metal key inside that won't start the car.

but it'll open the door.

I end up using it about once every year. Maybe 2 years.

Note that the car is an ancient minivan and not a 1963 Ferarri GT California

Question though - which is more gay, that or my Miata?

for most vehicles a wedge, airbag and long bendable piece of metal get you in much quicker. picking car locks is a pain in the ass.

My dad and I once had an argument about slimjims. My dad needed to go down to unlock a guy's car for him, and I knew that slimjims at that time were sold at CarQuest. So we went down to CarQuest and he said "Slimjims are illegal, only cops and tow truck drivers can use them." I said "uh-uh, they sell them at CarQuest."

Turns out I was right.

I still have a 2000 dodge neon. It is my winter beater. I bought it brand new in sept of 99 for 10k. It has been without a doubt the best damn car i ever had. the only thing i have replaced other than tires, brakes and battery is the clutch cable, struts and the belts. I run her hard from day 1 and shes gets me where i need to go every single time.

i love that car and make it a point to take her for a nice drive at least twice a week.

Neons are not gay. the posers who drive neons are the gay ones.
