I had a lot of transfers done when I lived in NYS and never once did I pay a NICS fee.
But if the out the door price is a good one then I don't really care how many line items are on the receipt. It could read: Glock 19: $3 NICS fee: $200 Transfer fee: $47 Total Due: $250 I'd be a happy camper paying that NICS fee. ![]() |

NICS is a simple phone call. There should be no fee, and the cost of the time spent should be part of the firearm purchase.
I've been behind the gun counter and made the call many times. It's not that complicated. |

You are in PA which uses its own system and yes, the state does charge the FFL it and that fee is passed to the customer. |

Hyatt Gun in Charlotte, Don't think I have ever seen something reasonably priced in that store I sent then an email asking about this brady fee here is what they said in there answer Hi Joseph: Since we need to retain your records indefinitely, we charge the $12 to offset this cost. You can save this cost if you purchase online and select store pickup. Thanks for checking with us! Warm Regards, The HyattGunStore.com Sales Team Now if I am not mistaken the requirement to retain records did not come from the brady law and they are only required to keep record for 20 years sound like a bunch of lie's to me. |

Call Al Sharpton.
That sounds like a modified "poll tax", and is an obvious attempt to disenfranchise potential gunowners. I'm sure that fat, slickhaired media whore will get right on it with a little social justice. |

I am an FFL in WI. WI has their own system for handguns, which dealers must use at a cost of $13 per name checked. No limit on the number of handguns that can be transferred on the same check. Long gun transfers are called in to NICS, which is no charge. So, $13 for handguns and $0 for long guns here in WI.

$25 here in NV like two other posters said. It goes straight to the NHP and is what keeps that agency running.
We used to get an exemption for CCW, but some of the Bubba sheriffs in outstate shithole counties started granting CCWs without running the background checks and we lost it for a few years. We got it back last year, but those of us who had permits issued prior to that, continue to get ass-raped for $25 every time we buy a gun because they won't upgrade us or let us renew early. They won't out the one or two counties that fucked it up, so we all have to suffer. It's not even the $25 that irks me, it's having to wait 20 minutes to 2 hours for the dealer to get in contact with someone who can do the check. |

Yep, you are right, only $12- what a bargain! Note that we charge a $12 fee on all firearms purchases picked up in the store to help offset our costs associated with the Brady Gun Control Act
I have been in the store there and actually heard an employee call it the "Brady tax" when he was explaining the charges to a customer. http://www.hyattgunstore.com/frequently-asked-questions.html It's probably been 15 years since I bought a gun at Hyatt's; when did they start doing that? |

It is awesome in Texas with the CHL at the gun counter but the State has already "precharged" because the CHL itself is expensive... Even for renewal.
The State is getting their money, call or no call. |
