THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT The nuclear power plant thread makes me wonder. Why don't the just shut it down, let the blackouts begin, and not re-open until the regulations are done away with. Same goes for businesses The people of this country are what make it work, not the government and their regulations . Its the tail wagging the dog, when will we as a country say enough? |

I'm game for this. A few weeks of no iPhones, mochafrappechinos and American Idle would do this nation some good.

Because nobody has the balls to go Galt. Going Galt is utopian since there's always someone willing to do it cheaper and a consumer isn't able to see what they are loosing out on.

Because the government will just nationalize at that point and either use troops to do stuff (like Reagan did when PATCO went on strike) or use the courts to force the employees to keep working (like FDR did when steel workers went on strike during the war).

Short term gains. Bars in my city (a city known for bars, tourism, and music venues,) are being cited left and right and having their music permits denied and their live music shut down, all while they operate with the other 20+ permits and permissions they need. Instead of sending kids in to try to buy booze, state alcohol agents and city code enforcement are sending in teams of people to run deep inside, forcing bartenders to leave the bar and chase them down to ask for ID and eject them when they don't have it––-though now the staff cannot touch anyone without going through a city-mandated class in bouncing––-and racking up huge fines when they aren't quick enough, or when team two comes in while they are occupied. I've talked to several bar owners I know, and they all agree that they *should* do what I suggest, but none of them will. All they have to do is get together, and all shut down. I suspect they would only be closed a week before the city would be forced to change their approach in the face of massive losses in sales taxes and tourism. But short term gains trump all. |

I'm sorry to bust your dreams of all the power plants shutting down simultaneously.. not going to happen. One button can kill a unit, but its alittle more complicated when you have no power at all to bring units back online. Not to point out the thousands of lives, food systems, and vital services that MUST have power.
What do you honestly believe would happen?! This isn't all the bars in you town. Some of the logic spouted on here is like reading 5th grade essays. You want to fight regulations you alter the general public's perceptions about the EPA, the far left political groups, and how this big picture includes them and their wallets. Not by killing grandma and causing a social nuclear meltdown. ![]() |

If everyone changed their deductions for payroll reduction to 12 so nothing was paid in until April 15 the government would do whatever it took to get people paying again.

The only way (that I see) to effect positive change is to overrun the Congress and Presidency with like minded individuals that DO NOT see these positions as a career.
I thought the Tea Party was going to do that.
The 'Silent Majority' is only slightly starting to mutter a few words. When we can speak in complete sentences; this Nation will be where 'it should be'.
What needs to be understood by the people (once again) is that "Freedom of" does not equal "Freedom from" and the personal idea of "decency" needs to be instilled upon society. |

Gosh if you asked people if they wanted to get rid of controls on nuclear power they would say no. And if you asked if they thought guns should be regulated they would say yes. Because they are both overly borad questions about technical subjects folks don't understand. Nobody here is saying that there shouldn't be any oversight on the nuclear industry, they are saying that the regulations are made specifically to destroy the technology and should be reeled back in. |

'in mind': the way people speak to each other; control actions as to minimize their impact upon others (loud car stereos, cussing loudly on the street...); general fear of speaking up for the general good for fear of being called a bigot, raciest, whatever; This sort of thing. |

Its the tail wagging the dog, when will we as a country say enough? i'd tend to agree with this as well sounds like some one is reading Rand again. I think that is why the govt works so hard not to shut down. When the govt shuts down and no one give a fuck it scares them to death.

Remember when the government shut down in the 90s and said they were only going to keep essential services open and furlough the non-essential services and some bright talking heads asked "well, if they are non-essential, why do we have them?" |
