Cat hate is a sign of insecurity and a neurotic need for control.

If you die in your house, your dog will lie down by your body and stay there.

Your cat will EAT YOU.

THIS!

I have seen many dogs damn near starved to death waiting for someone to find their master. Most cats, on the other hand, will start eating your nose and ears at the start of day two, but their is a reason for that. A dog can go a couple days without food with no ill effects. A cat, though, if it doesn't have food will begin to build up a toxin in its system that WILL KILL it. They have to have animal protein damn near every day to survive.

To be fair, I have seen a few people that their dog munched on them, but it always seemed to be some little dog. A GSD or a good PBT will lay down and die with you. Anyone in the funeral/mortuary industry will have undoubtedly seen many more cats eating on people. Always the face too.

I like cats, but they can grow to be troublesome. My buddies uncle and cousin lived on a farm and had to do what they called "cat drives" periodically because they became such pest. It kinda suck to have to kill kittens, but i if you just offed their mom, what really can you do?

So-called "barn cats" are an exception. Notice I said "feral housecats"––big difference.

How do you tell the difference between a barn cat and a feral cat?

My 'adopted' cat behaved like that for a while, then I began picking it up by the scruff and beating the crap out of it every time a tooth or claw touched me. She's much more polite now -she even greets me at the door and wants to play with me all the time. They can be trained -it just takes longer than it does with a dog.

Occasionally she thinks about biting me and runs away.

Probably grant money from the NSF or school or something.

I understand the need to document what animals do. And joking aside, it is neat to see that cats have one behavior when indoors and another out of door, but it's just kind of an out there thing to study.

Buddy in college had a cat names marley who would always come over and crash at my place. He would get mad because he knew the cat was coming over to get pieces of turkey.

Sometimes I would wake up and go cook breakfast to discover marley about my countertops.

I didn't say it never happened, but I haven't seen it as often with dogs as cats. And I've yet to see a cat find its owners grave at the cemetary and sleep on it for a couple months before it finally goes home.

I am laughing at his verbiage. I also laughed at George Fenwick's. To say that it does damage is quite sufficient. To say that it is "irreversible" is fucking ridiculous. A 10km asteroid strike is something that does irreversible damage. A pyroclastic flow does irreversible damage. These are ten pound cats we are talking about.

No, it's a sign that I pay $100 a year for my hunting license and I don't mind sharing the game with a predator that's meant to be there. Cats don't fill that niche.

Feral cats are like any other vermin, we have plenty of predators to keep the mice at bay in the woods no need for cats in the wild. In addition People who let there cats roam get what they deserve. If you love your pet keep them on your property...otherwise they maybe viewed as a nuisance and killed.

No...wait, actually I'm not...that's why I treat feral cats like the vermin that they are.

Want to protect your cat? Keep it on your own damned property.

And song birds and will raise hell with a nest of game birds too.

A lot of Pheasant hunters will kill cats on sight when they are hunting

They don't belong in the wild here.

Don't belong in the wild?

Pheasant is a 100% introduced species in north America

Pheasant are much more desirable in the wild than a house cat that kills for fun.

Not really. I've said for years we should wipe out the introduced pheasants while the population is low and reintroduce the prairie chickens and grouse that we're meant to have.

If it's not on its owner's property, and being off its owner's property is a common occurence yes it is.

I think they should be fair game, I can't understand the mentality of people who let their animals roam to shit in yards, scratch vehicles, etc.

Words mean things.

Im never the person to deny people from having or doing what they enjoy, however letting your cat live outdoors DOES negatively impact other peoples lives and causes irreversible damage to the local ecosystem. Yet its easy to ban a scary snake that in its life time wont kill as many animals as a cat will in a year.

"Irreversible damage"

What's so funny?

If a population is reduced below level at which it can sustain itself against predation, disease, etc, it will eventually disappear.

Pretty simple, isn't it?

I will smoke a feral in a heartbeat. My and my neighbors barn cats get a pass.

Dogs get about the same treatment. I know every dog for 3 miles in any direction. Anything new shows up in my yard, won't come when I call it, and acts aggressive at all buys a bullet.

Beating a dog will rarely result in the desired behavior. Cats are different.

Killing is bad.
Any animal that kills should be killed.

Oh wait...

What county are you in?

I don't have any rodent eating natural predators around my house.

BTW, most of the rats and mice you see are introduced, invasive species. And the Felis silvestris is their natural predator. That's the parent species of Felis domesticus.

I love it when I come home late from work and put 8 consecutive posts in a thread. Makes me look so very OCD.
