Posted: 8/8/2012 6:31:54 PM As another poster pointed out in another thread, the JPL Team calculated Mars' location in the solar system and Gale crater's location in Mars' rotation at the time MSL would arrive on the 6th, aimed for a relatively tiny window and planted Curiosity with extreme accuracy without slowing it or entering orbit before deploying the MSL. They targeted Mars and bulls-eyed it with Curiosity. The ultimate windage and elevation corrections. Makes the landing all the more cool.
