THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT They are their own religion. Guys please read this so you don't make Ass-Hats out of yourselves by Monday when you get to work. Educate yourselves and correct others tomorrow. I am doing this topic to point out to these Members who are posting that Sikhs are part of the Muslim faith/Religion. It is possible that the shooter may have been confused by that fact ,and may have attack the wrong group of people. But we don't really know what may have happened yet. Also some real lost souls out there may confuse the Hindu Faith as being also Muslim when it is not. Also. The majority of the Muslims faith are not fanatics. You need to remember that when talking with others. The Anti-Gun crowd wants you talking and posting like that to make all of us look bad. Please know the facts , and read it for yourselves. Don't make the same mistake as those posting in the shooting thread. Please read these links Thank you, Andre The months leading up to the partition of India in 1947 were marked by heavy conflict in the Punjab between Sikhs and Muslims. The effect was the religious migration of Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus from West Punjab, mirroring a similar religious migration of Punjabi Muslims in East Punjab.
Wiki Over twenty million Sikhs follow a revealed, distinct, and unique religion born five centuries ago in the Punjab region of northern India. Between 1469 and 1708, ten Gurus preached a simple message of truth, devotion to God, and universal equality. Often mistaken as a combination of Hinduism and Islam, the Sikh religion can be characterized as a completely independent faith:

I second this post.
Sikhs are their own faith and, believe me..you want them around. HEre are some wiki quotes.. The Sikhs must believe in the following values: Equality: All humans are equal before God – No discrimination is allowed on the basis of caste, race, gender, creed, origin, color, education, status, wealth, et cetera. The principles of universal equality and brotherhood are important pillars of Sikhism. Personal right: Every person has a right to life but this right is restricted and has attached certain duties – simple living is essential. A Sikh is expected to rise early, meditate and pray, consume simple food, perform an honest day's work, carry out duties for his or her family, enjoy life and always be positive, be charitable and support the needy, et cetera. Actions count: Salvation is obtained by one’s actions – good deeds, remembrance of God – Naam Simran, Kirtan. Living a family life: Encouraged to live as a family unit to provide and nurture children for the perpetual benefit of creation. (as opposed to living as a wild hermit, which was, and remains, a common spiritual practice in India.) Sharing: It is encouraged to share and give to charity 10 percent of one’s net earnings. Accept God’s will: Develop your personality so that you recognise happy event and miserable events as one – the will of God causes them. The four fruits of life: Truth, contentment, contemplation and Naam, (in the name of God). Their prohibitions: Non-logical behavior: Superstitions, or rituals which have no meaning, such as pilgrimages, fasting and bathing in rivers, gambling, worship of graves, idols or pictures, and compulsory wearing of the veil for women, are prohibited. Material obsession: ("Maya") Accumulation of materials has no meaning in Sikhism. Wealth such as gold, portfolio, stocks, commodities, properties, et cetera, will all be left here on Earth when you depart. Do not get attached to them. Sacrifice of creatures: Sati – Widows throwing themselves in the funeral pyre of their husbands, the act of slaughtering lambs and calves to celebrate holy occasions Non-family oriented living: A sikh is encouraged not to live as a recluse, beggar, monk, nun, celibate, or in any similar vein. Worthless talk: Bragging, gossip and lying are not permitted. Intoxication: The consumption of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other intoxicants is prohibited. No priestly class: Sikhs do not have to depend on a priest for any of the functions that need to be performed. Eating meat killed in a ritualistic manner (Kutha meat): Sikhs are strictly prohibited from eating meat killed in a ritualistic manner (such as halal or kosher, known as Kutha meat[1] ), or any meat where langar is served.[2] In some small Sikh Sects, i.e. Akhand Kirtani Jatha eating any meat is believed to be forbidden, but this is not a universally held belief.[3] The meat eaten by Sikhs is known as Jhatka meat. Having premarital or extramarital sexual relations |

Before the shooting I didn't know what a sikhs was. But I knew they weren't Muslim or Hindu.
I still don't know what they stand for. I've never talked to one. This shooting is a tragedy. |

Sikhs won't cut their hair or shave their beards until all Muslims leave Sikh lands. If this guy's plan was to kill a bunch of Muslims, he couldn't have picked a worse group to target.

any religion that has a tenant existence demands it's members to defend any person no matter their color, creed, or religion, is OK by me and very desirable to have around, much more so than some others I could think of, one in particular.

To Whom do they pray?
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, AKA Jesus' Dad? Or the one that Mohammed made up? Pretty simple, IMHO. |

Sikhs are indeed very different. They have turbans and full beards/long hair (shaving or cutting hair is forbidden). Some of the most upstanding people I have met who literally cam from nothing in India are Sikhs.

We learned about this in Arizona a few days after 9/11 when some uneducated fucktard killed a Sikh family man while he was working at a convenience store. Supposedly as retribution for the twin towers...
These people are decent, hardworking people, who are excellent, productive members of our society. A shame that they, or any group as such, are targeted like this.
Now, just waiting for the fucked up media to blame the Tea Party once again... |

The shooting was very tragic and I wish the best for the families affected. Sikh's are a very good people and do not get along with the Muslims.
Great read on the Battle of Saragarhi. 21 Sikh took on 10,000 Muslims and kicked their ass for 8 hours until they were over run. . I really wish we would say fuck you to Pakistan and improve relations with India. |

No truck do I have with that man. I do make it a point to drive by his house slowly, sometimes stopping with my windows open... when his Gardenias are in bloom. |

One of the practices of Sikhism is Langar or free kitchen. It is a free meal offered everyday year round for anyone in the community. Everyone sits together on the floor. This is a big deal in India with all the caste systems and religions. Everyone is welcome and equal.
Attending Langar is a good way to learn about Sikhism if you are interested. The Sikhs I have met have been courteous, honest, and hardworking to a fault. |
