Brady Campaign: CA has strongest gun control laws You swallow the propaganda of the enemy.? Plenty of cases headed to the SC. I'm more concerned about my State spending and all the agencies of business regulation. Cities going BK. Those were some dopey comments from the Brady spokes-hole about not being able to get hi-caps or that bullet buttons save lives. This state has plenty of guns, plenty of hi-caps and plenty of ARs. As long as the crazy person is motivated they could steal all that stuff. Even the Brady guy said the laws are over kill. Ironic use of words...c'mon. |

The interesting thing is that there are a lot of newbie cops, read 19-25 year old kids, out there who've bought OLL rifles over the years.
They are not necessarily "gun enthusiasts" either. Unless you are: an enthusiast who's been vested in keeping an eye on Ca. firearms laws, a Ca. resident that has been through the long history of attempts by this state to ban AWs, or maybe somebody who's just able to read into the complexity of the various Ca. AW laws then this whole thing is a quagmire... Of the "newbie cop types" not terribly many of them understand why they cannot use 30 round magazines with their OLL "bullet button" rifle. Even the ones who fancy themselves as a "gun nut" don't understand the actual lay out of the law or worse some of them just don't care meaning they think being a cop gives them an exemption. Fact is the Ca. AW laws don't care about LE status with regards to this mess. The only way a cop should have an "assault weapon" is if it's been registered in accordance with DOJ policy with the blessing of a police letter head asking for registration of the weapon to the officer. Many departments have began not issuing those letter heads ever since the opinion letter issued by Moonbeam before he left the DOJ and became govenor moonbeam. You think the average young kid cop is going to understand the nuances of this stupid law much less the requirement that they, as cops, should be welding their magazine button solid? Stupid law is going to cause a LOT of problems. I hope it does wind up with law suits going to the supreme court and wind up turning the entire AW law on it's head. But I'll remain jaded and skeptical that such a thing will ever happen. Hence the reason I stay away from Calguns, they seem to have a high percentage of the deluded optimism types that was evidenced by that of the typical unloaded open carry demonstrator. |

SacBee - Calif. bill seeks to tighten assault weapons law
By DON THOMPSON - Updated: 12:05 pm
Legislation that has the backing of California's attorney general would close a loophole in the nation's toughest assault weapons law, making it more difficult for guns to be swiftly reloaded with high-capacity magazines. |

What in the blue fuck is this?
Cal Guns Foundation retweeted the following from the STOPAB249 twitter account: t was fun beating both versions of @LelandYee, @akeigwin, @JPRognerud's #guncontrol bill #SB249. Looking forward to beating #SB249 again. What the fuck are they TALKING about? They "beat" both versions of the bill? Two prior versions existed, but in each case they were amended to make the law more restrictive / more onerous. Are these guys so deluded that they count THAT as battle victories? |

I don't think for a second that any cop will be prosecuted after this law passes. If one or two get in trouble, they'll just pass a new law with an exemption for LEO. This law will not get to the SC, and even if it does, now that Roberts has proven himself a traitor it won't do any good. |

The problem is you have pro-business states attract businesses, which attracts populations, which breeds idiots, which elect democrats and destroy what attracted them to the state in the first place. We're starting to see that happen with Texas, and once Texas and it's electoral votes go blue that's the end of the world boys and girls.
We're screwed unless we solve our demographics issues, which we won't do, so our children can look forward to living in a third world country. Wish Singapore had better gun laws and a bigger aerospace industry, I need a place to flee too. |

I find the OP's vitriol towards California irrational and at times comical. What has happened to the political landscape of California is currently underway in Colorado. Pat Stryker, Jared Polis, Tim Gill and Rutt Bridges have a disproportionate influence in Colorado politics and the fruits of their labor has been realized in the redistricting of Congressional districts. If the Op lives where I think he does - his congressional district has been radically changed and his vote will not matter because a prominent northern county has been rolled into liberal Boulder. (I guess its time for you to move).
As a wise founding father once said: "Gentlemen we must all hang together or we shall most assuredly all hang separately" |

I would posit that the average Californian of 1849 read the 2nd Amendment of the BOR and knew that once California entered the Union, the state's residents would have become "the people" of the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment by its language is incorporated. |

Grew up in Santa Barbara Calif. but left in about 1984 (seemed that I had another moment of insanity and wanted to re-start my marrage - big mistake). Gun laws not bad then - use to shoot at a range in the mountains in back of the city - but sadly, from all I read here, things have really changed.
Now, I walk up the street (in our rural community here in southern New Mexico) with what ever I want (this AM it was my RRA AR and a .22 pistol) and shoot at one of our farms. It is very unusal NOT to see some carring around here - seems no on gives a shit one way or another. Love this place. |

I honestly think that some of us are at least trying to wake up the general populace. My local shops are swamped every time I go in. Moving is not an option at this point for myself and I'm sure many others. We're stuck here due to various reasons. Any ideas? Friend, I'm at a loss. I had high hopes for the commission that was supposed to look over the redistricting process, but it floundered and failed. Truly, the system is so far gone that I honestly can't see what gun owners can do there. There are not enough of you to affect the gerrymandered voting districts. Maybe you can "go Galt" while living there, trying to minimize your contribution to the machine, but I get back to my analogy of the concentration camp and I think I'd just get out. You can talk football strategy all day long, but if the other team has paid the refs to make you lose, you're best off getting off the field and refusing to play in such a sham. On a broader level, I've been trying to get a couple big 2A names to jump in with me to write a law review article that deals with the regulatory limits in terms of "what" can and cannot be banned. It may be that some more good rulings out of Scotus will help, but with Roberts deciding that his status at cocktail parties in DC is more important than the constitution, I'd be reticent to depend on new rulings on the national level for a while. The likely solution is state bankrutcy. Maybe court rulings can save some of our gun rights in the meantime. |

I don't understand why some people here want CA to pass tighter gun control laws and "screw CA" because they somehow deserve it. There is an old saying, "so goes California so goes the nation". These laws will serve as an example to other states whose legislatures would also like to and not have a problem passing such laws.

I don't understand people who say "I won't comply!"
So you don't comply - now you can't go shoot your rifle for fun without being worried about getting a felony. You can't use your weapon for self defense, because you'll land in jail. You can bury your gun in the backyard and what? Use it if China invades? Might as well just turn it in, it's not doing you any good. These laws and the anti gun culture are what need to be stopped. But FUCK this place. I'm out as soon as possible. I won't be treated like a criminal by my own government any longer. |

I can think of no greater tyranny than a government blatantly and flagrantly disregarding the supreme law of the land, ignoring it and by doing so declaring that there is no law except the law of the state of the day. What are the anti states going to do, secede? |

Open carry bans got proposed, passed, and signed before we had any chance to even say "what?" There are better ways to raise public awareness than to shove it in everyone's face (ex. gay rights parades) |

Might as well just turn it in, it's not doing you any good. These laws and the anti gun culture are what need to be stopped. But FUCK this place. I'm out as soon as possible. I won't be treated like a criminal by my own government any longer. Most who stay will have to do something like this to avoid magazines being welded or held by a rivet in the receivers. Excuse me while I puke my lungs out. |
