In that scenario a fighter escort would be 99.9% useless, i say 99.9% because I suppose there's .1% chance the fighter could take the hit like in that crappy movie where they manuver in front of AF1 and take the missle lol. Any fighter from another country would show up on our radar LONG before it got close to AF1. And there's very few privately owned jets capable of being fitted with air-to-air munitions. So they just pack AF1 full of counter-measures to defend it from ground-to-air during take off and landing. Another somewhat possible reason is it's easier to keep the wraps on 1 jets movements if your not setting up the fighter and tanker escorts from multiple bases that it would take to keep fighters on it 24/7. Basiclly less people to spill the beans. Imagine this times 11billion and I imagine that's what it would look like if you got a missle lock on AF1.
