Hey guys.
Just picked this bayonet up.
Curious if the finish is original, if it looks unsharpened to you, and what year you guys would date it?
Thanks!

1943

final answer..........

additional info

BAYONET, M1: In mid-1943 a new bayonet was ordered with shorter blade of 10" length. It was identical to the 1905 Type 2 except for the 10" blade. A shorter M7 olive-drab metal/fiberglass scabbard came with it.

Cool, thanks!
Does it look to be all original to you? Unsharpened, etc?
It was a complete impulse buy. Looked to be in super shape so I jumped on it.

Yes, it looks original.

Dad yelled at me years ago when I took a bayonet like yours then proceded to sharpen it up on a belt sander. He told me "it don't need to be sharp, it will go right thru"

Well he was in the pacific during WWII so I new better than to debate him....

Ya...I bet he wasn't too happy about that!
Thanks for the info!

The marks on the scabbard indicate Taiwan manufacture.

American Fork & Hoe. Early war were 16" and cut down, most had the date stamp. Yours is prolly late after 1943 or so. I'll look it up when I get home, my bayonet book is at home, I'm at work.

Sometimes there is stuff stamped very low under the blade guard.

Look here. he is the M-1 boyonet guru:

Ya I thought it was strange that it wasn't dated.
Would love any other info you have when you get the chance!
The link you gave is a little intimidating haha...not sure where to start. But I'm looking at it now.

IS $80 a reasonable price for one of these?

Go to the CMP website, you can purchase original WW2 bayonets for $65.

There are a bunch of reproduction bayos around now, CTD sells some and I have seen them in other places.

A few of mine:

So are you saying this might not be an authentic blade?
The seller is waiting to ship because I had some questions.
I won it for $80 so if you think it might be a fake I'll pass.
Thanks for all the help so far!

Yes, it is authentic. It is a WW2 produced bayonet, it was just likely made between 1943 and 1945, when date markings were not required by the army. Also, $80 is a fair price, that one looks to be original finish. The $65 CMP bayonets are a real crapshoot, some are worn flat out, others are refinished in ugly black Greek parkerizing. This bayonet looks real good, I would buy it for $80 all day long.
