You can't go wrong with the greats: Redline, Haro, GT, etc. Don't ever buy any of the big box store stuff, though. I'm 5'9" and ride XL frames (Intense, Redline, DK).

Try to find a clean used Free Agent Eluder Pro, light bike with tough double wall rims and a longer top tube than most 20" frames. |

Several people in this thread have suggested a Free Agent but it looks like Dans don't sell them. Are they really good bikes? Been looking at their site and the Speedway looks good with 21" TT, so does the Team Limo but I ain't going a grand on a bike! I may go $500 though...

Just to update, been reading a TON over the last few days. Decided for sure I needed a 21" top tube and wanted a full chromoly frame. Had several bikes in the mix and made up a spreadsheet with all their specs and kept narrowing it down. Decided on the 2012 United Supreme SU2 Etnies and pulled the trigger a few min ago. I like the blue color on the 2013 SU2, but they shortened the frame up a bit for next year it seems, and this one was on sale and I found a 10% code for Dans, so ..... Should be here mid week Id guess. Looking forward to it.
I'll probably end up changing the grips and seat out to something grey and *maybe* putting some grey wall tires on it at some point

Get a used bike. Tech has come a long way since we were kids but a good bike still runs over a grand. Used will go for about half price.

Got my bike today! It's sweet, and really light compared to the old one I was on. I also got a new freewheel and fixed the old one and gave it to my sons.
The seat on this one is corduroy and more tan / brown than the pics would indicate. Thinking about putting some tan grips and tan wall tires on it lol. Can't wait to get home from work tomorrow and ride this thing! .... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
