THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I received a Marantz ST-500 AM/FM tuner for HS graduation. Folks wanted me to get a class ring or some other stupid thing that would just sit in a drawer.

Still have the Marantz in my rack of components and it still works like a champ 30 years later.

Anyone go practical when someone wanted to buy you something for graduation and you still use it?

A set of bath towels that were promoted to car cleaning rags long ago.

Still use 'em.

High School Graduation - I got some decent luggage that I still have and use.

College Graduation - A nice leather briefcase and planner that I carry daily.

They gave me a choice...either school, work, or the military, but either way I had to be gone in a year(paying rent each month too).

Yeah, 20 years later, I'm still in the fricken Army.

Since I always had a summer job from age 13 on I guess I didn't need that advice.

I got a set of luggage and kicked out of the house. The feeling was mutual. At least I got something useful –– I still have that set of luggage in the garage 25 years later.

That's awesome. I've never been in the military so I wouldn't know what that even would be like.

For graduating high school? I got nothing and expected nothing. It was my job to do. My parents were proud I got the job done and helped support me (free food and rent at home) as I went off to university.

Graduated not long ago 2007, I got two really nice snap-on tool boxes probably like 5 foot tall and 30 inches wide with the one setting on top of the other. When I got out of high school I wanted to be a mechanic then changed my mind now I'm halfway through an engineering degree. I never use them but they sit in the garage along with 5 grand of tools

hmm...for my hs graduation, I had already finished a semester prior and hadn't lived at 'home' in a year.

Not too long thereafter, a Marine recruiter called for a buddy I was staying with. I'm the one who ended up joining.

Everyone that came to my graduation party gave me money, with a single exception.

My first grade teacher and her husband, who lived in the neighborhood, stopped by, and they gave me a picture frame.

I appreciated the thought, but it was an odd gift for a 17 year old boy. It sat in the box for a few years until I came across it and gave it to my mom. She still uses it. It's a nice frame.
