Neither, you should buy a $500 garbage can.

That must be a high end garbage can.

You should buy 500 dollars of Snap-On tools and get free shipping.

But seriously, if you are going for redundancy for your arsenal and don't already have AR's, then definately get some AK's if you prefer them.

Only an idiot would throw garbage in it.

I'd have a hard time doing it. A WASR is a $300 gun and for that price it's decent, for $500 not so much. I'll admit, mine's taken a lickin and keeps on tickin though. Beat to shit, finish worn off, gets a little rusty some times but goes bang every time.

Put that $500 towards some training with a carbine or something....

I can't believe these things go for that much now.  I paid $229 for mine.  No cant in the front sight, no mag wobble.  More accurate than my Mini 14 with a pretty sweet trigger to boot.

I wish I had bough 12 of them, but once again my fucking crystal ball sucks the filthy crab infested black cock of homeless men under the freeway overpass.

I have a Colt AR...haters gonna hate. But I'm digging AK's lately, and a WASR is about as cheap as you're going to get. I like that. I also like the ability to shoot Wolf ammo and not worry/etc.

Add another $100 or $150 and buy a MUCH better AK.

Go for it...cheap and fun...

But you can always find a thumbhole-stock mak ftf for about the same price and get a much better toy..gangstas and bubbas don't think they're as cool..

Or even a yugo underfolder for an extra 100-200 would be better

"Should I put 500 dollars in a garbage can or buy a new WASR?"

Aren't they the same?

WASR's are not worth $500. I've bought over half a dozen SAR 1's for under that amount. You just need to be patient and look around. The SAR is a much better rifle and in my estimation- one of the best all around Kalashnikov variants ever imported. I like my SAR's better than my Arsenal's or my pre-ban Hungarian's. Here is why, it's a tradition AKM with dimple, Y stamp which is a plus, factory produced but the variant allows for a right hand folding stock which you can keep your optics mounted with the weapon folded. This makes for a very compact weapon, more so than just about anything else out there. With the addition of an AKMN style flash hider, it's an awesome all around combo. Plus the Romy parts are cheap and easily obtained.

My favorite all around combo: Romanian SAR 1 un-banned with correct Romy gas block w/lug, threaded muzzle, Romanian lever style centered stock, and the PK-01V Soviet mount made specifically for an Aimpoint to co-witness with the irons.

Oh come on, for $500 you could get a ratchet, 1/4" drive of course.

I wouldn't mind a $500 WASR personally. I do want an AK some day.

I really wish I would have grabbed one up 3-4 years ago or so when Dunham's used to sell them on Black Friday for $299 now, not so much...

SAR-1's were a great deal around 1999-2000.  Under $300, and I liked the Red stained furniture better....
