You know those people who do ships in a bottle? And how the rigging is done flat then pulled up once inside? Fucking childs play compared to what Harry Eng used to do...

Torched the bottoms shut after he put the stuff in?

I wonder how many bottles he's picked up and thrown across the room.

The one with the wood plank is the one that really gets me.  The locks and knots and stuff, I get.  He put them in piece piece and then put them together.  The wood?  I have no idea, unless he did glue it all together.

He might have grown a tree in the bottle, and then whittled out the wood plank.

Without burning/melting the cardboard and nylon rope inside?  I have a better chance of figuring out how to build the Great Pyramid of Giza than figuring out how he was able to tighten the monkey's fist on the top of the bottle without enough slack to let the deck of playing cards touch the bottom of the bottle.

Put those through some imaging machines to see if the bottles are intact.

Agreed, some of that stuff is one piece and bigger than the bottle opening.

The artist would probably pay someone to NOT do that.

Yeah. I didn't say he didn't have a steady hand and patience.

Drill a hole thru the deck of cards.

Take a few of the cards, curve them, slide them into the bottle. repeat until all the cards are in.

Unfold the card box, curve it and slide it into the bottle.

Reassemble the box, and drop the cards into the box using ________ tools
okay, I got us this far, someone else tackle the rest......

I don't believe he altered any of the bottles. He was clever and found ways to insert the objects.

From the website:

"Find a piece of wood from the High Chaparral (Manginita wood). Drill
Deck. Put case in bottle. Put cards in case. Put rope through deck. Tie
knot. Put nut, bolt, and lock parts into bottle. Hold bolt with a magnet
- screw nut on with dental floss. Assemble and lock padlock. Finally
sign the pack of cards".

Drill the hole thru the cards like I said above, and insert the pack.

The rope would be inserted ahead of the cards, the knot is tied (I am not sure how)

Nut/bolt was put in, and a magnet used to place the bolt. Magnet holds the bolt head, while a loop of dental floss is used to turn the nut

It says "lock parts" so I would take it to mean the lock was disassembled and each piece lowered into the jar. Then reassemble.

Magnets (how do they work) are used to hold the bolt and maneuver the lock. A loop of floss passed under the lock, and pulling up snaps the lock closed.

He gives some hints in the linked article-dental floss, for one. (ETA: he used it to thread a nut onto a bolt)

The wood plank could have been steamed-certain wood species are exceptionally pliable when hot and wet.  (some women, too, but that's a different topic).

Gut feeling.  The man was clever and spent time in creating these puzzles. I don't see that type of person as taking short cuts or using "tricks" like leaving out the cards, or altering the bottles.

I think that is also part of the wow factor.  He spent time thinking of things he could put into the bottle, not how to put things into a bottle.

Whereras, we are suddenly exposed to things in a bottle and are faced with the task of figuring out how to put that thing into a bottle.

Jedi mind trick.
