I know Nick Fury is packing a M+P in the upcoming Avengers film, and was nerdishly excited when I saw the ad for the M+P Shield on Facebook earlier today. Sadly it's just a single stack concealable verson and not emblazoned with the SHIELD logo. :(

Not a true single stack; the magazine is like 1-1/2 cartridges wide.

The Shield’s magazine isn’t a true single column magazine—in fact, it is about a cartridge-and-a-half wide, except where it narrows at the top. I spoke to one of the engineers who told me they didn’t go with a true single column magazine to avoid issues with rim lock. This slightly wider magazine, however, allows for a little more capacity in a pistol that is a mere 4.6-inches tall.

Not a single stack but still slimmer than a double stack mag.

Nice, but does it have the same width slide and frame as the double stack models?

I'm very interested in the Bersa BP9CC, as it is a slender single stack 9mm striker fired polymer framed gun... but a single stack, SLENDER M&P would have a very good shot at getting my money.

Think the whole pistol is slimmer overall but the grip is designed to mimic the medium sized grip of a full size M&P. I just skimmed over the article and didn't pay attention to the details.

I checked the site, it only shows the frame width. It is .95". The full size 9mm frame is 1.2". Doesn't mention the slide.

I really REALLY really want something single stack that is more slender than my G19's slide, which is, IIRC, around 1". I'll have to keep my eyes out for the M&P Shield, and maybe finger fuck one.

Holy shit, do like!

Like someone mentioned above, I would like one with a slightly longer barrel and slightly longer grip. I just want it to be thin. Heck, a single stack, THIN G19 would be perfect. The 'fatness' of the G19 is what I don't like.

Wow.
The tech specs on the mfr's sites state there is only 8mm difference in frame thickness.
But it seems to be more than that...

I carried a Kahr pm9 but wanted to bump up the firepower. It's not that much bigger but man did I notice the increased thickness. I actually had to get bigger pants. I think I may have to look into this guy, as I love the M&P series.

Glock can't even handle adding backstraps and dual recoil springs to their line up. I don't think they could make a reliable single stack.

Wow... I might have to check these out. This is the gun GLOCK owners have been asking GLOCK to make for YEARS! I see threads all the time on GLOCKTALK where people ask for a single stack 9mm that is roughly between the size of the GLOCK 19 and 26.

Looks like Smith and Wesson wins this one! Being a long time GLOCK owner (Glock 17, 19, 22, 23, 26 and 30) I can honestly say the M&P is a far superior firearm. I have the M&P9 and the M&P45 Mid-Compact and they are just SO much more comfortable then any of my GLOCK's. GLOCK's new Gen 4 was just an epic fail, if you go GLOCK, the Gen 3 is the only way to go but I don't know that would ever get another GLOCK now that the M&P's are out.

Just my .02$ cents.

Would you happen to have a Glock 26 laying around that you could put next to that?

sure

Wow.
The tech specs on the mfr's sites state there is only 8mm difference in frame thickness.
But it seems to be more than that...

EVERY mm counts for IWB carry

if Glock could shave 1.5mm of of the G19, I'd buy 6 of them
Glock can't even handle adding backstraps and dual recoil springs to their line up. I don't think they could make a reliable single stack.

I'm sure they could. But, to be fair, nobody has proven that S&W can either. This gun could be as reliable as their other M&P's or it can be an epic failure. Time will tell.

They did a single-stack .45ACP subcompact just fine.

Hell, they could easily shave a few mm off of the existing G19 or G26. Those guns are pretty overbuilt, and beefy for what they are.

WANTED: Someone to go back in time w/ me. Not a joke. PO Box 322 Hartford,CT 06132. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.
You will have to speak up, I'm naked.

And perhaps a PF9 Keltec on the other side? . Would love to see some size comparison shots with well known subcompact and "pocket" guns.

Thanks!

I think I'm sold.

Was pondering retiring my LC9 and PF9 for a Kahr... Think my cash will end up in SW coffers now.
Edit to add: this is now the most useful Shield thread on the entire interwebz.

They didn't have M&P's in 1998:

they had dual recoil springs on the G26/27 when they first came out and those worked fine. Gen4 is where they screwed up (at least initially)
