Any idiot that lets a 6 year old anywhere near a running woodchipper needs to be fed into it themselves.

i read about that over on arborsite earlier.  i can't imagine the guilt the dad must be feeling.  says the little guy tried to stick a limb in when his dad wasn't looking, and got pulled in.

watch your babies!

depraved indifference. having a 6 year old around a wood chipper is beyond an accident or negligence. its wonton disregard.

Anyone who would have that happen to his child, would probably be very sorely tempted to follow him into it...

I rented a 12" chipper when I bought this property and had friends come over to.....Help.

A guy who used to be a friend insisted on letting his boy (5-6) put wood in the chipper.

I damn near shut the whole thing down and took a bath on the rental money before he got the message.

I agree. I know an 8 year old who was allowed to mow the yard with a riding mower. He ran over his 3 year old brother. The 3 year old lost a leg. Everyone said what a terrible accident. BS. That should have never been allowed to happen.

I am sure that man is in his own personal hell right now.

If you are inclined to pray you may want to send one towards that family.

In my mind this would be like having your 6 yr old around a hot target range with your back turned.

Sad but true.

Too bad the child paid the price.

What a horror.

Many, many years ago, there was a guy in TX who took his grandson to work with him.

His job was to drive one of the giant rotary mowers which TX uses along the roads.

The kid fell off his grandfather's lap and under the mower head.

Shit like this happens all the time, you just try to keep them safe the best you can, but some people do make me wonder.

Wow. I used to do a lot of tree work with my dad and that was one piece of equipment he would really not let me around. I was young, in my teens, and he would just have me bring brush to him so he could feed the chipper. That machine will eat anything, medium size logs, shovels, rakes, and unfortunately people. I am still just fine and work very quickly with a chainsaw and stump grinder, but I'm still very cautious around a chipper.

I can't even imagine. This is awful.

Stop hating on a man who surely loved his child and failed him tragically through lack of foresight. Instead try consider what it feels like to be the man who just failed his child in that way?

Despite being the most hypervigilant individual that I know I can tell you that as a father of two, children can still occassionally manage to defeat your efforts to keep them safe.

Those suggesting punishment for his loss of his child, ask any father what punishment would be worse than that.

Prayers going out for this father and family.

Man.

And to think this evening I was outside cutting some roots with a hoe and insisted that mine stand well out of the way.

He still has two other boys to raise.  Too bad they were there to see it all go down too.

This is two towns over from me.  I heard the calls go out on the police scanner while getting into work this morning.  What a mess.

I have a baby boy due in less than 3 weeks.  I'm absolutely stunned.

I would need to right then.  I can't imagine how he couldn't join him immediately.

I hate the fricking chipper when it's me, I would never let my 7 year old anywhere near it.  In fact, I have taken to burning instead, while fire sucks it is a little more forgiving.

Lord, I can't imagine.  I just can't imagine the pain that family must be going through.

Little guy wanted to help his dad.  That's how boys learn.  But...

All you have to do is turn your back on a child for less than one second and then the next thing you know people like us are reading about "A horrible tragedy occurred today..." in the news.  I pray for those folks.

Take heed you fathers out there.  Don't let this man's mistake be repeated.

What a terrible accident.  I can see how the father would want his children near him as he worked.  I enjoy working with my boys, about the same ages as his.  There is no better way to teach them also how to work as having them with you.  I feel terrible for the family, and particularly for the father.

God comfort the grieving.....

We North Texans  lost two children that age to a cement pump sand truck accident two years ago. Truck looked like a giant sand box. They climbed in. Auger took both. No one could hear them scream.

God help the parents........ So sad
