Uh, Guinness? Guinness is weak on taste and weak on alcohol IMO (at least the stuff available to me). |

Quoted: murphy's cream stout or beamish ftw This, either is good but I prefer Murphy's. |

Guiness.
I didn't read anything but the title thread, but the answer is Guiness. |
|
Smithwick's, Harp, fore-mentioned Guinness of course, Murphy's has a good stout, O'hara's, Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale (brewed by guinness) and the list goes on!!!

Then your doing it wrong Irish Car Bomb recipe 3/4 pint Guinness® stout 1/2 shot Bailey's® Irish cream 1/2 shot Jameson® Irish whiskey Add the Bailey's and Jameson to a shot glass, layering the Bailey's on the bottom. Pour the Guinness into a pint glass or beer mug 3/4 of the way full and let settle. Drop the shot glass into the Guinness and chug. If you don't drink it fast enough it will curdle and increasingly taste worse. |

It's not Irish. It's what a stout can only wish it was.
St. Bernardus Belgian Abby. ABT 12 http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/st-bernardus-abt-12/2530/ Best beer I've ever had. Full, thick, rich complex without being bitter at all. Head so thick it's like whipped cream. |

Murphy's tastes like blood, I hate that stuff.
Get a bottle of Jameson and make sure you don't have any plans for the rest of the day. |

Guinness is classic. No other beer could replace it, so if you want Guinness, get Guinness.
If you think it's too weak, try their Foreign Export Stout. Previously common in Europe, they started shipping it here maybe a year(ish) ago? It's on the low side of "imperial" strength, and is just the finished, non-soured version of their "3%." Not sure how much you know about Guinness, but I could explain it if you need. Anyhow, it's expensive, but it's good. Murphy's is the better Dry Irish Stout, IMHO, but just be aware it's not Guinness. The new Guinness black lager is just a Harp (also a SJG product) with some roasted barley and chocolate malt in it. If you like Harp and you like roasted barley, you'll like GBL. There are also plenty of American craft brews in the Dry Irish Stout and Irish Red Ale styles. If you can find a place with nitrogenated Donnybrook Stout from Victory, it's exquisite. Or hell, just go to the brewery, it's not that far. |

Redbreast is good, but Black Bush is better.

Harp is brewed in Canada, FWIW.
Murphy's, Beamish, Guinness. In that order. |

guiness is made to sell, murphy's is made to drink AND THAT is what two Irish software engineers, on exchange, told me. They didn't like Maggie Thatcher so this Lutheran left them alone and didn't invite them up to the farm in Adairsville to shoot me ARMALITEs { 24" AR-10T & 20" AR-10A4}. But they are correct as to Murphy's. |
|
Murphy's has a funky taste, it is like the bitter beer face of Irish stouts.
Guinness is what you want. Down it with some Jameson ftw. |

My best buddy, drinking partner and authority on alcoholic beverages passed away last Nov. at 13 years of age. He was a male German shepherd and would only drink Guiness Stout. Nothing else. He would put away as much as I would allow him and he was a sweet drunk. If I poured him anything else he would give me a go to hell look and sometimes show me a tooth.

Smithwick's Much better than Guinness. +1, if you can get it. |

I've got a 6-pack of those in the frige, haven't tried one yet |
|
Ended up with a 6 pack of Smithwicks. Only 4.5%, but it's very tasty. Also picked up a bomber of La Trappe Quadrupel to cover the Saintly avenue of St. Patricks Day.
