THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT For the next one coming up we decided to switch things up a bit and to make it a little more interesting. I volunteered to make concealment targets (supposed to look like 2D bunkers (play along )) for some of the IDPA targets we'll be using.
The following is a bunch of pictures of what I used to put it together and how I went about it, just in case you're interested in putting one together yourself. (keep in mind this was done on a low budget, so it's quite "quick and dirty." Also, I put it together over three days, which is why my outfit changes First and foremost, MS Paint, where would we be without it? I "drafted" a rough outline of what I wanted to build...
Then I made a run to Lowe's to grab some supplies - Supplies: 2 - 2'x4'x16' Planks 1 - 4'x8' 3/8" thick sheet of plywood 1 - box 3" deck screws (already had these at home, not included in the cost) 4 - 1/4" threading x 5" long round head bolts (think thats what they're called... )
8 - 1/4" internal thread stainless steel nuts (I bought 20 because I'm building another set later, and added in 4 more just for a good rounded 20 4 - 1/4" x 1 1/2" stainless steel washer (once again, I bought more than needed to build the two targets shown here) Tools: Power Drill -philips head bit -1/4" drilling bit -1 1/2" drilling bit Reciprocating Saw -wood blade 6" adjustable crescent wrench (I used a ratchet, but a crescent wrench will work fine) Carpenter's hammer A helper to stare at you and groan:
[b]As a tip: Lowe's will make all the cuts you need, which makes the lumber much easier to transport and cuts down on work and time considerably I had them cut the 4x8 piece of plywood in half for 2 4x4 pieces, and I also had them cut the 2 2x4x16 planks into 8 4' pieces (4 planks of 4 feet long, from each parent plank...) Note: If you don't already have the tools on hand, this will add significantly to the total cost, I don't own a reciprocating saw, so I borrowed one from a friend. Everything, including two drill bits cost $32 and change (minus the very nice .mil discount
After assembling all of the tools and supplies, I began pre drilling the bolt holes with the 1/4" drilling bit in the planks. These holes are for the planks that will be used as the legs for the target to lean on...
They are centered and 3" from the end of the top of the 2x4 Then I measured 10" from the top of the 2x4's that will be screwed to the plywood for a centered hole.
After pre drilling all the necessary holes, I began to screw the planks into the first 4x4 piece of plywood
This is a lot easier with a helper (preferably one with thumbs) So I had my wife give me a hand on holding some pieces together while I screwed Those of you with more . . . professional work spaces than a one bedroom apartment may not need any help
Once I had attached each plank on either end of the sheet of plywood, I hammered the round headed bolt into the hole on the "leg" plank (so that it wont turn while you tighten the nuts on later...) Then I fed the plank, with the bolt on to the main target body...
Once it was through, I slipped a washer on, then hand tightened two nuts on to the end of the bolt. (I chose to use 5" bolts so that if they decide to back off on me while I'm shooting, they'll have to back off quite a ways before the target falls apart, I don't think this is really an issue, though.)
Once I got both legs attached I used my ratchet to (or crescent wrench) to tighten the nuts down until they started to pull the bolt into the wood. This was the "finished" product after the first night of work...
The next morning I drew an outline of the actual target area on the front of the plywood sheet. The cutout will measure 1.5' by 3' on one target, and 2' by 3' on the other. I then drilled corner holes on the target area to use the saw to cut out the rest of the piece.
Then I used the reciprocating saw to cut from corner to corner. I recommend cutting the bottom, then the sides then the top.
And finally, the finished product:
And here's both of them, you can see the difference in the two different size openings.
I think I like the smaller one better, Hope ya'll enjoyed this! ETA: Photo credit goes to Mrs. assault

Nice but it would have been easier and faster to plunge a circular saw in there and cut that out.
