Only reloads I shoot are my own. I don't even shoot factory ammo anymore because I'm afraid of that 1 in 1,000,000.

Reloads, same as every other gun i have ever seen blow up. Why the fuck do people shoot reloads they don't make themselves?

Damn!
Folks just gotta know the mighty Garand was made to function with a specific load. M2 ball or the very next best thing loaded to that formula. If you use commercial 30-06 or gunpowder that aint for the Garand, you will eventually get a broken op-rod or even a kaboom. That sucks, but maybe there are salvagable parts to save it.... |

Need way more details.
eta Such as USGI receiver or CIA aftermarket crapshoot receiver? Weight of projectile? Are all of the parts ruined?
Looks like a grenade went off.

For all its weight and clunkyness it is actually a rather fragile weapon as far as ammo is concerned. I'm curious what a round of Hornady SuperFormance would do to one.

Stupid is as stupid does. CMP has M2 ball for .50 cents a round, works out to a whopping $8.00 a box.

Gun show reloads... wow, the kid saved to have a beauty like that but couldn't afford the proper ammunition. I'd strangle the gun show vendor if I didn't know that was a dangerous combination to begin with.
I'm not a reloader, don't profess to be an ammo or Garand expert - which is why I buy ammo new. I've never owned or even shot a Garand - but even I heard that you have to be careful and shoot the right ammo for a Garand, preferably from the CMP (at least that's what I would do). Did he have Garand insurance? |

How many other calibers are there that have so many different variations, it can function in one gun, and blow up in another?
If I went and bought me a 30-06 rifle, I would assume that 30-06 ammo would work in it. Not a SPECIFIC 30-06 ammo. |

Not vice versa Developed during the depression, there was like a bizillion rounds of M2 around; didn't make sense(fiscal) to develop something of a different caliber. |

I would count .45-70 but all the stuff I've seen that might cause a KB has "do not use in older guns" written all over it about 20 times. |

Aren't there adjustable gas plugs (or something like that) for the M1 that help avoid precisely this?

It was originally a cmp gun that one of our customers put on consignment. We sold a h&r and a Springfield for the guy, this gun was one of those. I didn't bother to look at what specific gun it was, I just snapped the pics real quick before I left. |

The gun blew up because of the ammo, we even told him when he bought it to shoot the m2 ammo only. Whats sad is for what he payed for the gun show ammo he could have bought a can of m2 thats already in clips from us for like $20 more. |
