Damn, google finally killed my beloved scroogle.scraper.com, which scrubbed the searches and deleted all records within 48 hours.

I feel so naked now.

Question for the web gurus: Which search engine is the least intrusive into my privacy? Any tips for keeping my search history on the low-down?

I'd love to know, too.

After reading about google keeping all search records forever, I want to find an alternative. I never realized that there were already years worth of search history they had on me.

If you want to browse porn without anyone knowing, I always thought that just installing another, different browser and deleting any icons/shortcut so you could only access the browser through the program files seemed pretty simple...

Search engines exist for the purpose of recording your searches and selling your information to advertisers. None of them are going to be protective of your privacy. Use the one that works the best for you. If you're really paranoid, create a bunch of virtual machines, use a service like TOR and use a different versions of [browser] on each virtual machine.

Oh boy here we go, everyone ready.......

Was the Stop Online Privacy Act just invented as a way of using up political capital so that google could get away with this?

Typically you can't have two big campaigns in a row. People only have so much will power to participate. They used up all the rage on SOPA. Was it to get it out of our systems so we wouldn't protest this?

Isn't Google's new tracking' deal going into effect in March? I heard a report on the radio about. The report sounded like their were going to start tracking and referring you to other sites. Then the report cut to some guy saying that this change was needed to "protect our privacy" sounded like less privacy to me. Probably a good time to switch (pre-March).

Startpage does the same thing that Scroogle did. Actually, Startpage is arguably even better, as it doesn't record your IP at all and it also gives you the option to click on search result links via a proxy.

Nothing in that suggests the NSA runs Google. What I see is a US company coming under attack from a foreign government and that company seeking assistance from the US government.

but the NSA does more or less run Google, you dont have to agree, the only thing that matters is that it is happening, and we(those who use google products) will all suffer the consequences.

What law does this FOIA request purport that the NSA broke, because I'm not seeing one.

I've had good luck with FF10. Recently upgraded because Mibbit randomly disconnects me when I'm on Chrome.

Of course, there's some memory leak when running Mibbit and one of my addons (1+ GB), so I had to create a new profile with no addons to get Mibbit running properly in FF10.
