Was watching Ironclad last night on Netflix.  Decent.  Anyone know of anymore movies set in Medieval times.  Would also help if they are on Netflix, but let me know.

Thanks!

Arn: the Knight Templar is the only crusader movie I've seen that I kind of like.

Kingdom of Heaven has great visuals, but the entire rest of the movie made me want to puke.

If you're interested in the "Fascinating Casting Decisions of Hollywood" category, you could check out The Talisman, starring Rex Harrison as Saladin (he actually does a passable job).  That movie is one-third of my great trifecta in that category.

ETA I see you are also interested in medieval movies - there are plenty of good medieval flicks.  Just not good crusader ones.

Excalibur is I think one of the best movies set in that time period. Granted it's all based on myth and folklore but is still damn impressive!

I rather liked "Black Death," but it's more of a suspense movie.

there's also braveheart, chronicles of narnia, the vikings (w/kirk douglas), willow, robin hood (w/russell crowe), and finally, monty python and the holy grail!

This one has still got it after all these years...

Hawkins: I've got it! I've got it! The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Right?
Griselda: Right. But there's been a change: they broke the chalice from the palace!
Hawkins: They *broke* the chalice from the palace?
Griselda: And replaced it with a flagon.
Hawkins: A flagon...?
Griselda: With the figure of a dragon.
Hawkins: Flagon with a dragon.
Griselda: Right.
Hawkins: But did you put the pellet with the poison in the vessel with the pestle?
Griselda: No! The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon! The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true!
Hawkins: The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.
Griselda: Just remember that.

Weird, but that movie has better costume & set design than most "serious" medieval movies.

If you read the book first, the movie will make better sense. The book is excellent.

GREAT movie.  Sean Connery, Christian Slater, F. Murray Abraham.  Most excellent film.  Think "Sherlock Holmes does the Inquisition", and you have a good start...

Thanks for the quick response.  I have seen In the Name of the Rose years ago, will have to look it up again.  Will also have to look up some of the more "vintage" movies mentioned.

Ivanhoe features a young and lovely Elizabeth Taylor.  Good old school knights n' damsels film.  Tony Curtis did one called Black Shield of Falsworth, it's fun too.

Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer did one called Ladyhawke, it's good too.  Hauer's a badass in the movie.

Prince of Thieves is the crap Robin Hood. The real Robin Hood is the 1991 TV version with Patrick Bergin, Uma Thurman.
