THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
As you can see in the photos the barrel goes out to 18.5" then steps down, and ends with a Poly-choke. There is a scope mount base on the breech end. What is weird is someone cut thin slots in the top of the barrel and then reinforced the cut area with steel bands.
I have no idea what the hell the idea was. An attempt at "porting" the barrel? The slots go all the way thru to the bore, so I told the customer not to shoot the gun. Maybe this is the first Tapco-fucked Mossberg prototype?

from the general "look" of the gun, seems someone took a wallhanger and souped it up as a 'steampunk' prop. Is there a firing pin in it?

Whoever did that should be taken out back and beaten with it. Repeatedly. They should be adjudicated mentally defective and prohibited from ever laying hands on another firearm EVER! Then he should sue his parents, because they used his baby head as a soccer ball or some shit. What an asshole. Fuck him and pray to God that he doesn't reproduce. Goddamn. |

Its a shooting match gun. They choke the guns down as tight as possible to get the tightest pattern possible.

Turkey shoot gun?
A friend of mine bought a Winchester Model 37 with a stepped down 60" (yes 5' long) barrel at an auction. The barrel was ported with a series of 1/16" holes just before the step in the barrel. The gun had a 4x16 Tasco scope on a home made mount. Looked every bit as f'ed up as this gun. |

That's not a true "poly-Choke"-looks more like a factory Mossberg C-Lect-Choke. Early Mossberg prototype?

Looks like someone tried to make the ultimate turkey shoot gun. If you ever have the chance to go to some of the turkey shoots around here, you will see some contraptions.

Yep, wall hanger turned steampunk. BTW, that is a Mossberg C-lect choke, not a polychoke.

This was my first impression. In my youth, I used to help out a local vol.FD with their annual Turkey Shoot. We would have all kinds of crazy Hatfield & McCoy types show up with guns as bubbafucked as that one. They built these guns specifically to win frozen turkeys and they generally did. I remember these guys would go from shoot to shoot filling their heaps with frozen turkeys until asked to leave. Does that band along the cuts look like it has an adjustment screw or some other way to "tune" the effect of the cuts on the shot? Personally, I would probably be willing to pay $20 bucks for it just for the novelty value. |

No detants, no positive locking system. Back in the 70s I had a Mossberg Bolt-Action shotgun with that thing attached. You could maybe get off ~10 shot before the end of the barrel would go flying off the gun. Scared the Hell out of me the first time it happened. It became a moment of hilarity for my friends and myself ever time it happened since. The gun was a piece of crap all the way around. I sold it after a couple years for 1/2 what I paid for it and have not even considered the purchase of another Mossberg product ever since. |
