I traded a freind for an almost full can of .556 to start working up.

Got a good geuss on how many pieces in a full can? I'd say it was maybe 85% full

No, this isn't a contest and you're not gonna win a Spikes AR..........

I just ordered 1800 Hornady A-max 75 gr Boat tails. I've got a keg of IMR 4895 I've had for years. Also have Winchester small rifle primers out the fazoli.
They are on sale at MIdway, $102 for 600.......I ordered 3 boxes and 200 of the Barnes Tac-X 70 gr.......Should both be some excellent ammo.
$460.......ouch.

Got a good set of load data for those combinations? Buddy says the WCC '04-05 brass is prolly Law enforcement AR scrap.
Another freind says probably M3131 or something like that.

Any help?

To answer the question in the "Subject line".....Zero........There are zero 5.56mm brass in a .50 cal can.

Ok fine. How about if I offer a full can of M855 for an accurate answer?

No, wait, I'd have to count the shit...........

I'd say about 1-1.2k pieces of empty brass. I have 1k of 55gr .223 in a .50 cal can and it pretty much fills it up.

Yeah, I've got a 1000 round bag around here somewhere.......I think. I'd geuss that would be over 1/2 can.
My geuss is 1500-1700.
Thanks. Might havta count it tomorrow for yuks.

I know that 1000 loaded will fit so I would guess about 1200 or so.

Been a while since I used .50 cans for storing brass... But I seem to recall getting in the neighborhood of 1300 (perhaps even 1400) in a standard can.
I get about 1k loaded rounds into a can with room to spare though.

1300 on stripper clips. Anymore and the lid puts pressure on the rounds.

You could always weigh the can empty, then weigh it full and subtract the two to get the brass weight.  A quick google search turned up a weight for empty 5.56 brass of about 73 cases per pound (link).

5.56? 420 rounds in a .30 cal can, 840 in a .50 cal can.

Okay, 5.56, not.556. Dementia, doncha know?

I appreciate it gentlemen. Much more info than I expected. So the first geusstimate of 1200-1300 is about right.
1400 or so for ful can, 85% of that, 1200 + -.

Thanks guys. That was easier than counting it

I would have weighed it.

Weigh the empty ammo can.  Then weigh it full.  Subract.
Then weigh 10 empty cases.  Divide.
Profit.
