Only 50,000 to 103,000ish people in one place.  Nothing to worry about eh?

about 10 years of news and "tightened" security for sporting events maybe?

So, if I saw a man pointing a rifle at me at a public outing and took defensive action....

....would it be held against me?
Why not use the binos until needed?

Should have done it without people in the stadium. Should have a spotting scope on a tripod. At bare minimum shouldn't have taken glamour shots and put them on Facebook. The gun also won't depress without having to lose sight picture because that rail is in the way.

Fine and dandy to range, but in a stadium with people in it? He doesn't have a spotting scope to range with? The secret service never does it like that.

Look at the seats. It looks like it was taken pregame. Wouldn't surprise me if he had comms with another team member walking around holding up some type of target to get various ranges for his sector. I doubt the rifle was even loaded.

So they had never been in the stadium before gameday when people are in the stands? No rangefinder, no cosine indicator, and no rangecard is visible.

He probably had a small sector to scan and others had the rest. It wouldn't surprise me if there were 20 shooters covering the game, USAF jets patrolling or on standby, and SF/Delta on standby just in case something happened.

Having seen some of the planning going into security for the 2010 Superbowl, it's amazing that it even happens every year.  I have no problem with snipers at sporting events.  I have a problem with a guy posting pictures of it online so that a bunch of people can get their panties in a wad over it.
