THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
So ever since I read the book "I Am Legend" I really liked the story. I saw the movie and felt really meh about it, except for the AR Robert Neville carried. so I decided to try to build a similar looking rifle. I've changed a few things like the gas system length, rail length, barrel profile, and buttstock. I was wondering if anybody knows where I might be able to find the light that was used. I've done some research and discovered it was a PentagonLight MD3R. The movie is now 5 years old and i assume the light is older. As we all know gear changes pretty frequently and things get discontinued as I assume this light has been. Any help in finding said light would be great as google has only turned up the MD2 on ebay...

Here is what I have so far. I have to order 2 more packs of ERGO Grips rail covers and get the light and it'll be finished in my eyes other than going out to the range to fire...

here is the prop rifle that was actually used in the film, according to the internet movie firearm database, imfdb.org

ok, after doing more looking, it seems the PentagonLight company has gone out of business and that's why the lights are hard to find. I found a guy on calguns.net named GETTINREADY who seems to be selling his for almost half the original price. now I have to sign up for ANOTHER FORUM>>...>>..>>

I believe the host rifle was a 6920 modified to fire FA. The light is a fenix and they are no longer sold. I'm not positive but I think someone sued them (surefire?)

Everything i've found said PentagonLight was the company. Being sued by surefire seems to be the common reason as to their demise.

It was a PentagonLight, not a Fenix. Fenix only recently started making weapon-mountable lights (and I don't think anyone really uses them). Plus, I think PentagonLight is the only company with the light/laser combo units such as the one in the picture. And Fenix was never sued by Surefire, but Pentagon was.

More specifically, SureFire sued PentagonLight for patent infringement regarding lockout tail caps and for false advertising regarding claims of "Made in the USA". SureFire won both parts.

Yep. Funny thing is, PentagonLight could have easily stayed in business with only minor changes to their product line. They sort of just gave up.

There will never be anymore. So far, nobody has stepped up to make a replacement. I like my Pentagon, but I'm sure someday it will be a paperweight.

Interesting basis for a build. What rail is that on the original?

They don't have that particular rail listed. Later in the IMFDB.ORG posting for the movie, they have a different railed AR shown with that rail's details listed, but not for the rail shown in the picture above.

So you have the wrong buttstock, wrong grip, wrong barrel profile, wrong FH, and wrong mag. I think my M1 is just as close to the prop rifle as the OPs,.

the rifle pictured looks to have a 16" M4 profile carbine length barrel with a YHM-ish rail and A2 grip and M4 stock.

ETA I think those are UTG rail covers.

Yea. The ones in the picture posted are for sure UTG covers. I have a box of them.

I understand the idea, but its far from a "clone" rifle. Since your not really staying true to its original configuration, I suggest finding a different light from somewhere like surefire. I bought 1 Pentagon light and wouldnt own another even if they were still in business. The battery life is crap and there are way better options out there for the same price.

Aside from you having an AR15 and the movie using an AR15 platform, what are you keeping the same? Optic? Since its really not a clone at all you might as well use a flashlight that you can still find parts for IMO.

Seriously. Why are you a stuck on getting the light correct, when other than the recievers nothing else is?

This topic has come up a few times... The rail is a C-More, and the light is a Pentagonlight. I thought the rail covers were YHM, but I'm not sure, TA31 ACOG, with a weird reticle...

Pentagon lights don't have to be paperweights. Standard surefire p60 type bulbs will fit into the 2 cell lights without problems. I've been running a p60 in my MD2 for a year now without issue.

I don't think anyone said that it wasn't a good looking rifle. We just don't see the similarities as you do. Don't get all but hurt about it. You did better than having a Fiero kit car and actually calling it a Ferrari.

I believe our collective thought is that the things that you changed give each AR it's individuality and character.

Impossible.

I think that normal P60 bulb assemblies fit some models (even though the actual PentagonLight assemblies were a slightly different shape).
