Here's some high angle shootin' for ya:

There's some OBR Porn in there
Article

Course Breakdown

The four-day course begins by ensuring that both the weapons and
shooters are capable of delivering precision shots at any range. The
students also visit local venues to learn what to look for and seek out
when establishing an FFP. The class quickly realizes the complexity and
difficulty in operating in large arenas like Cowboys Stadium and why
physical fitness for a sniper is essential. Classroom time is provided
to teach the theory, equipment and practical applications of delivering
accurate, high-angle fire.

Discuss.

Cool I was taking pictures of a couple at one of the Penn State Games I was at but I had a point and shoot camera so there were just pixels

ETA: I see a OBR around 37 seconds into the second video

I dont think at Penn State they call them snipers. I believe they are "shower lookouts".

I disagree. LEOs should at the very least brainstorm for as many possible scenarios as possible in the locations they operate. It would be irresponsible to NOT prepare for this scenario. It would be stupid in a place like my home, Reno, NV, where we have no mega-stadiums.

Yep....a lot could go wrong, and they better be well trained and bring their "A" game.

Actually, there's probably only maybe one or two in the way. Unless all 80,000 just happened to line up in front of the bad guy.

So are the sniper rifle crew served weapons now?  Who carries that monster tripod?

I didn't see it in the video, but I hope/assume they practice some without those supports.

Look at the chart, the distance changes depending on the angle of the shot.

At 50 yards with a 50 degree angle, the distance is 32.

I watched the first vid. I am all for training and general brainstorming as to "what would we do if X happened" but I think they were showing off for the camera

Landing in the parking lot with a helio? When any event is going on is there any space to do that? Looks to me like the SWAT guys wanted to play with the copter more than any kind of training

Rideing on the running board of the SWAT van? Seems like a good way to be cut off at the knees by a cab in NYC or any other big city

Training=good
Doing silly stuff to look hot for the camera guy =stupid waste of time that could get folks killed when the chips are down

take your yardage and find your angle of elevation and then multiple THAT by the cosine.

So 654yds is, for instance, a 15.25 MOA adjustment, 94% of 15.25 would be a 14.5MOA adjustment. 614yds would have given you more like a 13.5MOA adjustment.

I don't think it would be that hard to get a gun into one if you really wanted too. Lots of moving parts in a stadium and a lot of places where you could sneak it in.

Done it before - last year in fact (was a CCW friend in our group, actually).  They had pat-downs, so all you have to do is relocate your carry piece to appendix or groin carry to get in the gate.  Not looking like a thug helps quite a bit.  It was a long walk back to the car in a bad neighborhood, so personal protection trumps silly laws IMHO.   Had they had a check box or somewhere to lock it up, we would have done that...

But it still doesn't take away the logistics of finding and taking down a shooter / terrorist in a stadium of 80,000 screaming, running, erratically moving people with children.   What's the range these guys would typically shoot at?  250-350+ yards from their perch?   What's the accuracy of their rifles and ammo, 3/4 MOA realistically?  So even if the shooter is perfect, you still have an error of 2-3 inches on a moving target at a steep angle with wind 300 yards away while trying to take a shoulder/head shot?

I hope there are no hostages.

Those distances are pretty long,
In a stadium most of the higher angle shots are going to be pretty close (more like 100-150 yards)
Any of the shots clear across the stadium(200yds +) are going to be a flatter angle

That was a Texas Tactical Officers Assoc training event so I would guess it does not involve the FBI.

Going up those stairs and being told , lets go by the instructors. Set up take the shot.......

A couple of years ago a prankster distributed a couple thousand LED widgets that were supposed to spell out something rude at a major college stadium, all it took was a deliveryman uniform and a clipboard and he waltzed right through the service entrance.

I (allegedly.) snuck multiple flasks into a college football game this year. (Hypothetically) (Other words to ensure I didn't admit to breaking a law)
