I know I am in on page 7000 and no one will read this (plus I think the offer is long gone) But as I see it the NRA is almost exclusively a fund raising origination to help fight anti (FUD) gun laws. How exactly does being a cheap lifetime member help them AT ALL?

Money in the bank now is better than no money at all. I would imagine most NRA members who paid the yearly membership would have/had gaps in their membership. Their hope is that these lifetime members will then become Endowment, Patron and Benefactor members in the future.

Sheer numbers help right of the bat. When a rep from the NRA visits someone in Congress, that Senator or Rep knows that he/she is talking to someone who is the mouth piece for millions. MUCH more effective than if just you or I walked in to speak to them.

As far as the offer being gone, it's not that I'm aware of. Look a couple of posts above and you'll see where a guy signed himself and his wife up tonight. If you want in, I'll send you the info you need and and you can be a Lifer in 5 minutes. Let me know either here or an IM, I'll be here for about another hour.

The biggest issue with the traditional membership price structure is that it puts higher levels of membership out of reach for many of us. The swing from $35 per year to $1,000 in one lump sum is huge. It's much easier for many people to swallow $300, and I'm sure the NRA would much rather have $300 than $0.

It also entices people to keep moving up the chain. I bought my life membership in January (thanks Danc!) and upgraded to Endowment in February, and I'm hoping to move up to Patron in a couple weeks. That's $550 for the NRA thus far and another $250 down the road, as opposed to $35.

I think life membership is also a great encouragement to invest another important component, our time. I've gotten very motivated since buying my life membership. I joined two local Friends of the NRA chapters and I've volunteered for both of their fundraising banquets. Yesterday, I burned a few hours volunteering at the FNRA booth at a local gun show. It's not just money that keeps the NRA moving.

The point isn't just to help them but also help us because it gives you the ability to vote in pro RKBA people rather than the FUDs

It took me a couple of tries to figure out which PM button to click. On the first try I ended up PMing thelaststand on accident (I think his post was right above yours).
He's probably wondering whatl I was going on about.

Thanks for letting me use your info to get the membership deal and for the welcome.
I'm over in the reloading section now, there's enough info there to keep me reading for a year.

My status on the website went to "LIFE" on 1/31/12 but I haven't gotten my Life Member packet with stickers, patches, and card. How long does it take to get the packet? I wanna get my little NRA eagle in my profile and I need that stuff to prove my life status.

I got a magazine before I got the packet. Scan in your new "LIFE" mailing label and I'm guessing they will accep that.

if this offer is still available, i would definitly like to become a life member of the nra.
i think offers like this get people to join the nra that wouldn't normally join otherwise, or have been meaning to join but need a little push to do so and i think that push is this. thank's to all who have contributed

Congrats!

After a few days I started receiving almost daily updates from NRA-ILA (their institute of legislative action team) as well as other emails/offers from the NRA. About a week later I received my NRA board member's ballot. They may or may not be sending those out now since the deadline is rapidly approaching. Received a welcome card about two weeks after I signed up. Got my first magazine today (about 3 weeks since I signed up). Still awaiting my membership packet.

I got a magazine before I got the packet. Scan in your new "LIFE" mailing label and I'm guessing they will accep that.

Good idea. Worth a try anyway. Thanks!

Any slots left? I've been wanting to upgrade for a while and $300 is a darn good deal. I'd prefer to do CC over the web.
